Does NutriScan count calories from a photo?
Yes. NutriScan reads a photo of your meal and returns calories, protein, carbs and fat in about 10 to 15 seconds.
How it works in the app
- On Home, tap the + button and choose Scan Meal. Long-pressing + opens the camera right away.
- Take a photo, or tap Choose Photos to pick one from your gallery.
- Pick a food type and a cooking method. The cooking method is required except for Fruits and Supplements. Set the oil level if you want to. A note about portion or ingredients is optional.
- Submit. NutriScan shows "Finding items in the Meal", then calories, then micronutrients and the NutriScore.
What you get back
The Nutrition Details page shows calories, protein, carbs and fat, plus fiber, net carbs and the top micronutrients. Tap "Show More" for every micronutrient and a card for each item. Each item has a portion pill, so you can change the portion, remove an item, or add one the scan missed.
For packaged food, switch the camera to Label and photograph the label. A label photo asks for a cooking method too: pick Raw or Not Sure when the grams you typed are the pack weight, or a cooked method when you weighed it on the plate.
Limits
- The free plan includes 5 scans a week. Premium has unlimited AI food scans.
- If the photo has no food, or NutriScan cannot read it, you get a message with Retry and Retake Picture.
- You need an internet connection. Without one the app shows "No internet connection. Please check your network."
