Pretty good app honestly. Logging meals is fast and the macro breakdown is easy to read. Photo scan gets confused on some Indian dishes though, fix that and it's 5 stars for sure.
Calorie Scanner App: A Free Food Scanner App for Calories โ
NutriScan is a calorie scanner app: point your camera at a plate and it reads the food. Calories, protein, carbs and fat come back in seconds, along with the micronutrients that stand out and a NutriScore for the meal. It works on a packaged snack, a restaurant order and a home cooked dinner alike, so you can log food without typing a single ingredient.

What the calorie scanner actually does ๐ธ โ
Photo, voice or text
Take the picture, describe the meal out loud, or type it. All three land on the same nutrition breakdown, so a meal you ate on the train still gets logged.
Cooking method changes the numbers
Eleven cooking methods and a four step oil slider. Deep fried and air fried are not the same meal, and the scanner does not pretend they are.
Macros plus the micros that matter
Calories, protein, carbs and fat, then the four micronutrients that stand out in that dish, whether that is fiber, potassium, calcium or omega 3.
A NutriScore you can argue with
Every meal gets a score and a written reason. Tap through to a breakdown and ask follow up questions about any nutrient in it.
Fix anything the scan got wrong
Adjust the portion with plus and minus or type the grams, rename the dish, delete an item, add a missing side by voice or text. Favorite a meal, copy it to today, or set it to repeat so the same breakfast takes one tap.
How the food scanner works ๐ ๏ธ โ
Snap your meal
Take a photo of whatever is on your plate, a bowl of oatmeal, a burrito, a plate of biryani or a lunchbox with four things in it. You can crop the shot, speak the details or type them instead if the camera is not handy.

Tag how it was cooked
Pick a food type from 8 tags, Home Made, Packaged Food, Restaurant, Office, Hostel, Street Food, Supplements or Hotel buffet, choose one of 11 cooking methods and drag the oil slider from No Oil to High Oil. The same dish deep fried and steamed does not carry the same numbers.
Read the breakdown and log it
You get calories, protein, carbs and fat, the four micronutrients that stand out in the meal, and a NutriScore with a plain explanation of why. Adjust the portion, rename the dish or add a missing side, then save it to your day.

Meals people scan every day ๐ฝ๏ธ โ
Breakfast is oatmeal, eggs on toast, a croissant, idli or poha. Lunch runs from a supermarket salad to a rice bowl, a thali or a sandwich eaten at a desk. Snacks are the ones that quietly wreck a day: chips, a pastry, samosas, a handful of nuts nobody measured. Dinner is where home cooking shows up, pasta, curry, a stir fry, a roast with three sides.
The scanner does not need a clean studio shot of a single ingredient. It reads mixed plates, combination meals and half eaten portions, which is what food actually looks like. Set your targets first with the macro calculator, then let the scanner fill the day in.
What you get out of scanning regularly ๐ โ
- Calorie control without a spreadsheet. Daily totals build themselves from the meals you scan, and the home screen shows today against your target.
- Protein you can see. Weekly progress shows your protein target hit rate, so a week of carb heavy lunches is obvious before the month ends.
- Micronutrient gaps. Vitamin D, calcium, B12, iron, magnesium, zinc and omega 3 all get tracked across the week, not just calories.
- Better swaps. NutriScore on each meal makes the difference between two similar looking lunches concrete instead of a guess.
- A record that survives. Sync with Apple Health, ask NutriBites about your own history, and see readiness and streaks on the Progress tab.

Finally sticking to a diet plan because of this app ๐๐ป
Surprisingly fun to use? Lost 1 kg in 4 days just by logging stuff and keeping my NutriScore green. Still on the free side, will probably grab Premium soon.
You take a photo and seconds later you have your macros and micronutrients. That's basically why I stuck with it.
Been using it 2 days now and liking it so far. First week is free so not much to lose.
Did some homework before installing and yeah, the photo scan accuracy is legit. NutriScore is solid too. Keep building, this is great.

Frequently Asked Questions โ โ
Is the food scanner app free to use? โ
Yes, with a weekly limit. A free account gets 5 meal scans a week, resetting every week, plus 4 voice calls a week with Monika, the AI nutritionist. Premium removes both limits and adds 28 day diet plans and grocery lists. There are two plans, Free and Premium, and nothing else to pick between.
How accurate is the food scanner? โ
NutriScan's own accuracy checks put food recognition at 95% for foods our database covers. Portion size is the harder half: the app estimates it from the photo, and you can correct it with the plus and minus buttons or by typing the grams. If a scan is wrong, thumbs it down and pick a reason, and that meal goes into the review queue.
Can it handle home cooked food and mixed plates? โ
That is what the tags are for. Mark a meal Home Made, set the cooking method to steamed, boiled, roasted, deep fried or one of the other options, and move the oil slider to match how you actually cook. For a plate with several items, the scanner reads them separately and you can add anything it missed by typing or speaking it.
What if the scanner gets my dish wrong? โ
You edit it. Change the meal name, adjust the portion up or down, remove an item the app hallucinated, or add a side it did not see. You can also mark a meal as a favorite, copy it to today or set it to repeat, so a dish you eat every week takes one tap instead of a fresh scan.
Is my food data private? โ
We do not sell or share your food data. Scanned meals and health information stay in your profile, and you can delete a meal or your whole account from the app. Nothing you log is published anywhere without you choosing to share it.
