Pretty good app honestly. Logging meals is fast and the macro breakdown is easy to read. Photo scan gets confused on some Indian dishes though, fix that and it's 5 stars for sure.
Free Calorie Tracker App That Stays Free โ
The free NutriScan account has no end date and no card behind it. You get 5 AI photo scans a week, NutriScore and micronutrients on every meal, your whole meal history, the fasting timer, water tracking and reminders. Premium adds more on top. The free floor does not move whether you buy it or not.

Go Premium for unlimited scans and the 28 day plan, or stay free forever. Your history is yours either way.

The free tools, one by one ๐งพ โ
5 AI photo scans a week
Photograph the plate and NutriScan reads it back as calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber and micronutrients, with a NutriScore for the meal. You set the food type from 8 tags, the cooking method from 11 tags and the oil level across four steps, so the number reflects how the food was actually made. The counter resets at the start of each week.
Micronutrients, not just calories
Vitamins and minerals show on every meal on the free plan. Most free tiers stop at the four macros.
Intermittent fasting
14:10, 16:8, 18:6, 20:4 or a custom window, with a weekly chart and a history log. Free, with no separate app to install.
Water and reminders
Log water from the Home card or the Water tab, edit the goal any time, and set up to 6 reminder slots for meals and water.
Your history, kept
Meal history is unlimited on the free account and the monthly NutriScore calendar goes back as far as you have logged. Nothing is trimmed after 30 days and nothing is locked if a subscription lapses. You can also ask NutriBites questions about that timeline, and push the data to Apple Health or Google Fit.
How to track calories free in NutriScan ๐ ๏ธ โ
Set your targets and log the first meal
Install the app and answer the setup questions: age, gender, height, weight, activity level and the goal you are chasing. NutriScan turns those answers into a daily calorie target and a protein, carb and fat split you can adjust yourself. Then tap the camera and photograph whatever you are eating. Free accounts get 5 AI photo scans a week and the counter resets every week. Logging by text or voice is on the free plan too.

Read the full breakdown, not only the calories
Every meal you log opens with calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber and the micronutrients found in it, plus a NutriScore for the meal. Set the food type from 8 tags, the cooking method from 11 tags and the oil level across four steps, so a deep fried version and a steamed version of the same dish do not come back with the same number. NutriScan's own accuracy checks put food recognition at 95% for foods our database covers.
Keep the habit going with the free tools
Start a fasting window from the Fasting tab and pick 14:10, 16:8, 18:6, 20:4 or a custom one. Log water from the Water tab or the card on the Home screen. Set up to 6 reminder slots in your profile for meals and water. Ask NutriBites about your own meal timeline, and sync everything to Apple Health or Google Fit. None of that is behind a subscription.

Want the target numbers before you install anything? Run them through the macro calculator, then compare with what the app sets for you.
Why the free floor is written down ๐๏ธ โ
We read 4,091 one to four star reviews of four rival nutrition apps before writing this page. Depending on the app, 24% to 44% of those reviews are about money rather than nutrition: charged before anything worked, a cancel path that looped, a refund refused. In all four apps that cluster is bigger than the one about scan accuracy.
So the free floor is stated here in plain terms and it is the same floor inside the app. 5 AI scans a week, 4 calls a week with Monika, NutriScore and micronutrients on every meal, unlimited history, fasting, water and reminders. No expiry date, no card, no feature that quietly stops working in week three.
Cancelling Premium runs through the store and the app does not stand in the way. Tap your plan name on the Home screen, choose Cancel Subscription, answer a short survey about why you are leaving, and NutriScan sends you to the App Store or Google Play manage subscriptions page to finish. Premium keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for, and your log is never taken away.
Already tracking with something else? The calorie counter app page covers the logging side in more detail, the diet planner page covers what Premium builds, and the fasting tracker page covers the free fasting timer on its own.
What people are saying
Real reviews from people tracking their meals with NutriScan.
Finally sticking to a diet plan because of this app ๐๐ป
Surprisingly fun to use? Lost 1 kg in 4 days just by logging stuff and keeping my NutriScore green. Still on the free side, will probably grab Premium soon.
You take a photo and seconds later you have your macros and micronutrients. That's basically why I stuck with it.
Been using it 2 days now and liking it so far. First week is free so not much to lose.
Did some homework before installing and yeah, the photo scan accuracy is legit. NutriScore is solid too. Keep building, this is great.
Just started but it looks promising. Big plus that you can try it for free.
Finally a calorie counter without ads or upsells every two screens. Photograph the meal, done. Free, simple, exactly what I needed.
Found it right when I needed help fixing my eating. Really glad I did.
Solid pick if you want to track calories and stay on a diet plan without overthinking it.
Lost weight using this. The diet plan kept me honest on bad days. People sleep on how much diet actually matters.
Tracks calories, macros, and even the small stuff like micronutrients. If you're trying to build muscle, this is the app to get.
150k+ downloads and a 4.6 star average across the app stores.

Frequently Asked Questions โ โ
Is NutriScan actually free, or free for a week? โ
The free account has no end date. 5 AI photo scans a week, 4 voice calls a week with Monika, NutriScore and micronutrients on every meal, unlimited meal history, the fasting timer, water tracking and reminders are all on it and stay on it. New accounts also get a 7 day free trial of Premium, and when that trial ends you land on the free account rather than on a locked screen.
Do I need a card to use the free plan? โ
No. Using the free account never asks for card details. The 7 day Premium trial starts through the App Store or Google Play, and whether a card is collected there depends on your platform and region, because the store handles that part, not us.
What happens after I use my 5 scans for the week? โ
The scan counter resets at the start of the next week, so you get 5 more. In the meantime you can still log meals by text or voice, and everything you already logged stays visible with its full breakdown. Premium is what removes the cap.
What does Premium add that free does not have? โ
Four things: unlimited AI scans, unlimited calls with Monika, the 28 day personalized diet plan with its grocery list and recipes, and the full weekly and monthly Progress reports. There are two plans, Free and Premium, and nothing in between.
If I cancel Premium, do I lose the meals I logged? โ
No. Your log is never taken away. Cancelling runs through the App Store or Google Play, with a short survey asking why you are leaving, and Premium keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for. After that you are on the free account with your history, your NutriScore calendar and your micronutrient breakdowns intact.
