Pretty good app honestly. Logging meals is fast and the macro breakdown is easy to read. Photo scan gets confused on some Indian dishes though, fix that and it's 5 stars for sure.
Indian Diet Plan App Built Around Dal, Roti and Sabzi โ
A printed chart says one katori dal, two rotis, one cup rice. It does not know the dal got two spoons of ghee, or that lunch was a wedding. NutriScan is an Indian diet plan app in a specific sense: Indian is a setting. Pick it in your cuisine preferences and the 28 day plan comes back as uttapam, ragi shakes, dal and sabzi. Then the camera reads the plate you actually ate, oil level and all.

Why an Indian diet chart for weight loss stops working by Wednesday ๐ โ
The chart is rarely wrong. It is silent about the parts that decide the number.
The ICMR-NIN Dietary Guidelines for Indians, released in May 2024, describe the shape of the problem: cereals contribute 50 to 70 percent of the total energy in Indian diets per day, while pulses, meat, poultry and fish together contribute 6 to 9 percent against a recommended 14 percent. A 2025 review in the Indian Journal of Medical Research put the Indian recommendation of 250 g of cereals a day above the 180 g WHO suggests, with household intake still at 270 to 320 g. Rice and roti do most of the work; pulses do less than they should.
A paper chart cannot see that happening in your kitchen. Here is what it leaves open, and what the app asks instead.
| The line on the chart | What it leaves open | What NutriScan asks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 katori dal | how much oil or ghee went into the tadka | Oil quantity, four steps from no oil to high oil |
| 2 rotis | dry, or smeared after roasting | Cooking method, 11 tags including roasted and deep fried |
| 1 cup rice | the size of the cup in your house | Portion size, plus and minus, or type it in |
| "vegetables" | which sabzi, cooked which way | A photo, read back item by item |
What changes when Indian is a setting and not a theme ๐ โ
Cuisine preference, up to five of them
The plan form asks which cuisines you cook and lets you tick one to five from Indian, Mediterranean, East Asian, Latin American, Continental or European, Middle Eastern, American and African. Tick Indian alone and the meals stay Indian. Tick Indian and Continental and the plan mixes them, closer to how most kitchens run. One cuisine mode inside a global app.
Vegetarian, eggs, or everything
Food preference is four options: Vegan, Vegetarian, Vegetarian plus eggs, and Everything. A vegetarian Indian diet plan never suggests chicken to make the protein math easier.
Two options at every slot
One plan offers a black gram millet uttapam or a banana ragi shake for breakfast, against a daily target of 1,885 kcal, 110 g protein, 260 g carbs, 45 g fat and 26 g fiber.
Grocery list from the plan
The Grocery List tab builds a weekly and a monthly list from your plan, and either one copies out with a tap.
Oil is a setting, not a guess
Every scan carries three tags before it is processed: food type from 8, including street food and restaurant, cooking method from 11, and an oil quantity slider with four positions. Deep fried pakoras and steamed idlis stop counting the same way.
How the Indian diet plan app builds your 28 days ๐ ๏ธ โ
Fill the form once, including how you eat
Age, gender, height, weight, goal, activity level, food restrictions, eating schedule and cuisine preferences. Food preference is four choices: Vegan, Vegetarian, Vegetarian plus eggs, and Everything. Cuisine preference is a multi select of eight, Indian among them, up to five. A house that cooks dal on weekdays and pasta on Sunday can say so.

Read the plan with dates on it
The plan opens with a start date, an end date, a progress bar and a daily target. Every eating slot carries two options, so breakfast might be a black gram millet uttapam or a banana ragi shake. Tap a meal for its quick recipe, portion size, benefits and nutrition breakdown, and the Grocery List tab holds the weekly and monthly shopping list.
Photograph the thali you actually ate
Before the photo is processed you set the food type from 8 tags, the cooking method from 11, and the oil quantity across four steps from no oil to high oil. What comes back is calories, protein, carbs, fat, the top micronutrients and a NutriScore, and the Home screen subtracts it from today's target.

Indian food portion size, in katoris and roti counts ๐ฅ โ
Home cooking has no barcode and no serving panel, so portion is where most tracking falls apart. NutriScan puts the correction after the guess. Once a meal is on screen you can raise or lower the portion with plus and minus, type the real quantity, remove an item that was never there, or add a missed one by typing or saying it, the quickest way to log the extra roti and the spoon of pickle.
Tap any meal in the 28 day plan and it opens with its portion size next to the quick recipe and the nutrition breakdown, so the katori in the plan and the katori in your hand can be compared instead of assumed. Meals you eat often can be marked favorite, copied to today, or set to repeat, which matters where Tuesday's dal is Thursday's dal.

Where to go next ๐งญ โ
Check your numbers first: the macro calculator gives the same split the app starts from. For one dish rather than a whole plan, use the Indian food calorie calculator page, and the diet planner page goes deeper into the 28 day plan for every goal. A surplus instead of a deficit is a different problem, handled on the weight gain plan page.

Frequently Asked Questions โ โ
Is there a free Indian diet plan app? โ
The free account covers the tracking half: 5 AI photo scans a week, unlimited manual and voice logging, calories, the four macros, micronutrients and a NutriScore on every meal, unlimited history, water tracking and the fasting timer. The 28 day plan sits in Premium, about 59 dollars a year, with a 7 day free trial for new accounts. There are two plans, Free and Premium, and nothing you logged disappears if you drop back to Free.
How many calories in an Indian meal? โ
There is no one number. The same dal, rice and sabzi lands very differently depending on how much oil went into the tadka, whether the roti was dry or smeared with ghee, and how big the katori is in your house. NutriScan asks instead of assuming: you set the cooking method and the oil quantity before the photo is processed, then correct the portion afterward with plus and minus or by typing the grams.
Can I get an Indian diet chart for weight loss for a female? โ
Yes. The form takes age, gender, height, weight and activity level and turns them into a calorie target and a protein, carb and fat split, so two people eating the same food get different numbers. Weight loss is one of the goals you pick, alongside muscle gain, type 2 diabetes, pregnancy and PCOS, and the goal shapes both the targets and the meals.
Can it do a low carb high protein Indian diet? โ
You can set that yourself. Review Your Macros in the plan form, and Modify Macros under Profile later, give you sliders for protein, carbs and fat in both grams and percent, with calories recalculated on the 4-4-9 rule as you drag. Push protein up and carbs down, add anything you will not eat to the food restrictions field, and the plan is rebuilt from those answers when you tap Edit Plan.
What happens after the 28 days are over? โ
You renew the plan or change it. The Diet Plan tab has an Edit Plan button that reopens the same form, so a new job, a fasting month or a different goal all go in there, and the next 28 days are built from the new answers. Your meal log is untouched by any of it, because the log counts what you ate rather than what the plan said.
