Pretty good app honestly. Logging meals is fast and the macro breakdown is easy to read. Photo scan gets confused on some Indian dishes though, fix that and it's 5 stars for sure.
AI Nutritionist App That Reads Your Logged Meals โ
Ask a general chatbot what you should eat tonight and it answers a stranger. It has no idea you already had 1,900 calories, that you are 40 grams under your protein target, or that your plan puts fish on a Wednesday. NutriScan puts the nutritionist inside the tracker instead. Monika answers out loud on a phone call, and she can see the meals you logged, the targets you set, your weight trend and your current plan. Neither she nor anything else in the app is a licensed dietitian, and there is a point where you should book one. Here is what each part does.

Monika answers on a call, not in a text box ๐ง โ
The call button lives on the Home screen, next to the camera. Tap it, allow the microphone once, and you are talking to Monika, the voice nutritionist. There is no prompt to write and nothing to read back, which is the point: most nutrition questions turn up while your hands are busy, halfway through cooking or on the way home from a shop.
You can ask her anything about food. You can ask her to explain why last night's meal landed on the NutriScore it did. You can ask for a swap when today's planned meal does not appeal. You can also tell her what you just ate, and she logs it, so the meal is sitting on the Home screen when you hang up. Free accounts get 4 calls a week. Premium is unlimited.
The part that makes the answer yours ๐ง โ
She reads the same log you do
Every meal you scan, speak or type is saved with calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, the top micronutrients and a NutriScore. Your macro targets, your weight entries and your diet plan sit next to it. That is the context the answers are built on, so a question about dinner is answered against what breakfast and lunch already used up.
A chat on every meal
Open a logged meal, tap Nutrition Breakdown and Ask More, and ask about that plate. Three questions come ready made.
NutriBites reads your timeline
Which meal had most fat, how much protein this month, which day had most calories. Answers come back with tappable meal cards.
Voice everywhere, not only on the call
Log a meal by speaking it, add a missed side by voice, dictate a question instead of typing it.
You get to say the answer was wrong
Thumbs up or thumbs down sits under every NutriBites answer and every meal breakdown. A thumbs down opens a short form with real options, wrong nutrition data, confusing response, missing information, harmful advice, so a bad answer becomes a report instead of a shrug. Meal scans have their own version for a mis-read portion or the wrong dish.
Three ways to ask, step by step ๐ ๏ธ โ
Log a couple of meals, then tap the call button
Set your goal and macro targets during signup, then log a meal by photo, by voice or by typing it. The green call button sits on the Home screen next to the camera. Tap it, allow the microphone, and Monika picks up. Ask anything, or tell her what you just ate and she logs it, so the meal is on Home by the time you hang up.

Ask NutriBites about the week in writing
The NutriBites tab holds a question box with two sides, Food and Health Data. Tap one of the suggested questions such as how much protein this month, which meal had most fat, or which day had most calories, or type your own and speak it if you prefer. Answers about meals come back with meal cards you can tap through to the full breakdown.
Ask about one plate on the meal itself
Open any logged meal and tap Nutrition Breakdown and Ask More. Every meal already arrives with three questions of its own, and there are Explore Topic tags for things like calorie counting or weight loss. Type or speak a question about that plate, and thumbs up or thumbs down on the answer if it was off.

Where an app stops and a dietitian starts ๐ฉบ โ
Monika has no licence, no sight of your bloodwork and no record of what your doctor said in March. The research keeps landing in the same place. Bayram and colleagues, writing in Nutrition and Health in December 2025, asked ChatGPT-4o and ChatGPT-4 for 1,800 kcal menus for a 20 year old woman with obesity and had three dietitians score the output against the Turkish Dietary Guidelines. The menus came in under the calorie figure they had been asked for, the macro split was unbalanced, and calcium and potassium fell short. Their conclusion was that chatbots give useful general insight but cannot replace a dietitian in clinical planning. Noom draws the same line in writing for Welli, telling users not to bring it medical or clinical questions.
Book a registered dietitian if you are managing diabetes on medication, kidney disease, an eating disorder, celiac disease or a diagnosed allergy, a pregnancy with complications, or recovery after surgery. Then use the app for everything in between, which is most days: whether that snack fits, what to order, where the protein went this week.
If you want the numbers before the conversation, the macro calculator sets a target you can type straight into the app. The AI calorie counter page covers the photo scan the log is built on, and the ChatGPT diet plan alternative page covers the meal plan side.

Finally sticking to a diet plan because of this app ๐๐ป
Surprisingly fun to use? Lost 1 kg in 4 days just by logging stuff and keeping my NutriScore green. Still on the free side, will probably grab Premium soon.
You take a photo and seconds later you have your macros and micronutrients. That's basically why I stuck with it.
Been using it 2 days now and liking it so far. First week is free so not much to lose.
Did some homework before installing and yeah, the photo scan accuracy is legit. NutriScore is solid too. Keep building, this is great.
Just started but it looks promising. Big plus that you can try it for free.
Finally a calorie counter without ads or upsells every two screens. Photograph the meal, done. Free, simple, exactly what I needed.

Solid pick if you want to track calories and stay on a diet plan without overthinking it.
Lost weight using this. The diet plan kept me honest on bad days. People sleep on how much diet actually matters.
Tracks calories, macros, and even the small stuff like micronutrients. If you're trying to build muscle, this is the app to get.

Frequently Asked Questions โ โ
What does Monika, the AI nutritionist in NutriScan, actually do? โ
Monika is a voice assistant you reach by tapping the call button on the Home screen. You talk, she answers out loud. She can take a nutrition question, explain why a meal scored the way it did, suggest a swap for a meal in your plan, and log a meal when you tell her what you ate, which then shows up on Home. Free accounts get 4 calls a week and Premium is unlimited.
Is an AI nutritionist app the same as a real dietitian? โ
No, and NutriScan does not claim it is. Monika is software with no licence, no view of your bloodwork and no record of what your doctor said. Book a registered dietitian for diabetes managed with medication, kidney disease, an eating disorder, celiac disease, a diagnosed allergy, a pregnancy with complications, or recovery after surgery. Use the app for the everyday questions between those appointments.
Is there a free AI nutritionist app? โ
NutriScan has a free plan with 4 Monika voice calls a week, 5 AI photo scans a week, unlimited manual and voice logging, and NutriBites questions about your own meal history. Premium removes the call and scan limits and adds the 28 day diet plan, the grocery list and the Progress tab, for about 59 dollars a year. There are two plans, Free and Premium.
Can I talk to the AI nutritionist instead of typing? โ
Yes. Monika is a voice call, so you speak and listen, which works while you are cooking or driving. Voice also runs through the rest of the app: you can log a meal by speaking it, add a side the camera missed by voice, and dictate a question into NutriBites or into the chat on a single meal instead of typing it.
How does the AI nutritionist know what I ate? โ
From your own log. Every scan, voice entry or typed meal is saved with its calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, top micronutrients and NutriScore, alongside the macro targets you set, your weight entries and your diet plan if you have one. That history is the context the answers are built on, which is why the same question gives you a different answer than it gives someone else.
