Does NutriScan work for home-cooked and regional dishes?
Yes. Pick Homemade as the food type, then describe or correct the items so the estimate fits your dish.
How it works in the app
- Tap + on Home and choose Scan Meal, or type the dish.
- Set the food type to Homemade. Other tags include Street Food, Hostel, Office, Salad and Bakery.
- Pick the cooking methods that apply. You can choose several, such as Boiled and Stir-fried, or Mixed if the dish is both.
- Set the oil slider and add a note like portion size, item names, raw items or how it is cooked.
- Submit and read the Nutrition Details page.
Fixing a home recipe
A home dish rarely looks like anything else, so check the item list:
- Tap a portion pill to change the quantity, the unit, or the grams in one unit.
- Remove an item that does not belong with the X on its pill.
- Tap "Type missing item" to add an ingredient. It searches all foods, your recent history and your favourites.
- Use Edit Macros if you know the numbers from your recipe.
You can save the corrected meal as a favourite and copy it to another day, so a dish you cook every week needs fixing only once.
Regional foods and location
The app uses your location for regional nutrition data. It asks after your second logged meal. The app does not list which cuisines or dishes it covers, so check the items it returns and correct them.
Ask about the dish
The "Ask anything about meal..." bar on the Nutrition Details page opens Nutrition Breakdown and Ask More, where you can ask follow-up questions.
