How accurate is NutriScan's photo calorie count?

A photo count is an estimate, not a measurement. NutriScan lets you correct portions, items and macros so the logged numbers match what you ate.

Treat it as an estimate

A photo cannot show oil in the pan, the weight of a portion or what is inside a sauce. NutriScan gives an estimate and gives you tools to tighten it. The app does not publish an accuracy percentage on its feature screens, so this page does not quote one.

Ways to get a closer number

  • Tell it more. Pick the food type and cooking method, set the oil slider (No Oil to High Oil), and type portions or item names next to the photo.
  • Fix the portion. Tap the portion pill on any item, change the quantity or unit, and the nutrients update live.
  • Fix the items. Remove a wrong item with the X on its pill. Use "Type missing item" to add one the scan skipped.
  • Edit Macros. Change calories, protein, carbs, fat or micronutrients per item. A value far from the scan estimate asks "Use your value?" before it saves.
  • Refresh Meal. Say what is off (missing items, incorrect items, incorrect numbers, wrong portion size) and the AI re-checks the meal. Refresh counts per meal can be limited.

Tell NutriScan when it is wrong

Under "Did we get it correct?" tap thumbs-down. You can pick reasons: portion or serving size incorrect, wrong dish identified, missing add-ons, calories or macros inaccurate, packaged or brand label mismatch. Add a note of up to 500 characters.
