Is Fitia Free? Fitia Price, Premium Cost and Trial Rules

Written by NutriScan TeamApp ComparisonNutrition Tips

Fitia app pricing, free version limits versus Premium monthly, annual and family subscription costs

As a NutriScan nutritionist, I get asked about Fitia constantly, and with 10 million+ downloads and a 4.8-star rating from about 446,000 Google Play reviews, the question is fair (Fitia, Google Play). Here is the short answer: yes, Fitia has a permanent free version, and it is more limited than that rating suggests. The free tier covers text logging, a barcode scanner and up to 4 meals a day. Photo logging, voice logging, meal plans and the AI coach all sit behind Premium, which costs $19.99 a month or $59.99 a year on the US App Store (Fitia, App Store). In this post I break down every plan, the exact free-tier limits, the 3-day trial rule most people miss, and a referral rule that can make your whole year free. 📊

The short answer: free exists, but the headline features are paid

Fitia: Calorie Counter & Diet is published by Nutrition Technologies (listed as Fitia Technologies on Google Play, with a registered address in Middletown, Delaware). On the US App Store it holds a 4.9-star average, checked in August 2026.

The free version is real and does not expire. According to Fitia's own help center, it includes (Free vs Premium, Fitia Help):

  • Personalized calorie and macronutrient targets based on your goal
  • Food logging by text search, using most of the verified database
  • A barcode scanner for packaged foods
  • Up to 4 logged meals per day
  • Weight tracking (but not photos, body fat or measurements)
  • Ads

Everything that makes Fitia feel like an AI app is Premium: photo food logging, voice logging, creating foods with AI, the Fitia Coach chat, automatic meal plans, recipes, shopping lists, fasting timers, Apple Health and Health Connect sync, custom macro targets, and an ad-free experience.

Independent reviewers land on the same split. Garage Gym Reviews puts it bluntly: with the free version, "all you can do ... is track your food by typing it in, log up to four meals per day, and track your body weight" (Garage Gym Reviews, 2026). So if your question is really "can I photo-scan meals in Fitia for free," the answer is no.

What the free version actually feels like day to day

Feature lists hide the friction, so here is what the limits mean in practice.

The 4-meal cap shapes your logging. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and one snack fills the quota. If you eat two snacks, or you log pre-workout and post-workout food separately, you hit the wall on day one. Premium removes the cap.

Text and barcode only. The free database covers most foods, and barcode scanning handles packaged items well. What you lose is speed on cooked meals: a mixed plate of rice, curry and salad takes several searches to log by text, while Premium users photograph it once. If fast photo logging is the reason you want an app in the first place, Fitia's free tier does not give you a taste of it. The 3-day trial is the only way to test it.

Weight is the only progress metric. Progress photos, body fat and body measurements are Premium. For a slow recomposition phase where the scale barely moves, that is a real gap.

Restaurant menus are Premium. The help center notes that full access to the verified database "also includes restaurant menus" as a Premium benefit. Free users searching for a chain dish may find generic equivalents instead of the menu item.

Ads. The free version shows ads; Premium removes them.

None of this makes the free tier useless. If you eat 3 to 4 structured meals, cook at home, and mostly log packaged or simple foods, free Fitia can carry you for months. The people who upgrade fastest are photo loggers, snackers and meal-plan users.

Fitia Premium price list

The US App Store lists these subscription options (checked August 2026):

PlanPrice (USD)Works out to
Premium, 1 month$19.99$19.99/month
Premium, 3 months$23.99$8.00/month
Premium, 6 months$35.99$6.00/month
Premium, 12 months$59.99$5.00/month
Premium Family, 1 year$89.99$7.50/month for the family

Column chart of Fitia Premium cost per month by plan: $19.99 for 1 month, $8 for 3 months, $6 for 6 months, $5 for 12 months, and $3.75 per person on the family plan shared by two usersFigure 1: Effective monthly cost by plan. Three monthly payments cost more than a whole year.

Two things stand out in that table.

First, the monthly plan is priced to push you to annual. At $19.99 a month, Fitia's monthly rate matches Noom-level pricing, while the annual plan costs $5 a month, one quarter as much. Pay monthly for 3 months and you have spent the price of a whole year. Fitia's own comparison article confirms the same two headline numbers for the US: $19.99 a month or $59.99 a year (Fitia, 2026).

Second, the listing also shows older 12-month prices of $53.99 and $58.99 alongside the current $59.99. That is the trace of price experiments, so the exact number you see in the app can differ slightly by country and by the offer you are shown. Treat $59.99 a year as the US anchor, not a universal constant.

The family plan at $89.99 a year covers 2 to 6 users and includes a meal plan sync feature, where everyone gets the same meals with servings scaled per person (Fitia, 2026). For a two-person household that is $45 per person per year, cheaper than one individual annual plan each.

Fortune's reviewer, who tested the app for five days, called the value the weak point: "the lack of human coaching or oversight (compared to Noom or Nourish) makes us think it's worth a little bit less than what the brand is charging" (Fortune, 2026). That critique applies to the $19.99 monthly price. At $5 a month on annual, the math changes.

The 3-day trial: read this before you tap

Fitia's free trial has three rules that its help center states plainly but users often miss (Subscription & Billing, Fitia Help):

  1. It only exists on the annual plan. There is no trial for the monthly, 3-month or 6-month plans. Choosing the trial means choosing the $59.99 annual subscription with a 3-day delay on the charge.
  2. It converts automatically. When the 3 days end, the full annual price is charged as one upfront payment. Fitia does send a reminder one day before the trial ends, which is more warning than many apps give.
  3. One trial per account, ever. If you activated a trial before, even years ago, you cannot activate it again.

Canceling during the trial keeps Premium access until the trial ends, so there is no reason to wait until hour 71. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel in the Plan tab under Settings ➡️ Account ➡️ Manage Subscription, or directly in your store's subscription list. Web subscribers cancel at app.fitia.app under Manage Subscription.

TIP

Three days is short. Start the trial on a normal eating day, not a vacation day, and use photo logging for every meal so you learn whether the recognition works for the food you actually cook. If most of your meals need manual correction, you have your answer before the charge lands.

Refunds: the 48-hour web rule

Where you paid determines whether a refund is even possible.

  • App Store (iPhone): Apple processes the payment and the refund. You request it through Apple's refund page with your Apple ID. Fitia cannot issue this refund and Apple does not guarantee approval.
  • Google Play (Android): same story through Google Play's refund flow.
  • Fitia's website: the one channel Fitia controls directly. Purchases made at app.fitia.app are refundable within 48 hours of payment by emailing [email protected].

That 48-hour web window is stricter than the store-based safety nets some competitors lean on, but it is at least a stated policy. The practical takeaway: if you think you might want a refund, the trial-then-cancel route is far more reliable than any refund request. For a wider look at how these policies compare across apps, see my guide to refund rules for calorie tracking apps.

WARNING

Auto-renewal complaints follow the same pattern here as everywhere: the trial counts as an active subscription, and deleting the app does not cancel anything. Cancel in the store or on the web, not by uninstalling.

How Fitia's pricing compares to similar apps

Fitia sits in the middle of the AI photo-logging market on annual price and at the top on monthly price (US prices, August 2026):

AppMonthlyAnnualFree photo logging?
Fitia Premium$19.99$59.99No
Cal AI$5.99 to $19.99$29.99 typical offerLimited
YAZIO PROno monthly plan$47.90No
Cronometer Gold$8.99$49.99No photo scan
NutriScan Premium-about $59 a year5 scans a week free

Cal AI runs constant price experiments, so its effective annual price is usually lower than Fitia's; I documented the spread of price points on Cal AI's listing earlier this year. YAZIO PRO undercuts Fitia on annual price but has no monthly plan at all. Cronometer is cheaper but has no photo logging. Where Fitia justifies its price is breadth: the Premium bundle includes meal planning, recipes, shopping lists and fasting tools that most photo-scan apps do not have. If you would otherwise pay for a meal-planning app and a tracker separately, $59.99 covers both jobs.

If mixed home-cooked plates are your main use case, it is also worth reading my full NutriScan vs Fitia comparison, which tests both apps on real dinners rather than packaged foods.

You can now place Fitia against every rival. The referral rule I promised is next.

✨ The uncapped referral rule (about to reveal)

Three ways to pay less for Premium, including the one with no cap

You have been patient. The first two routes are useful; the third is the one that can make your year free.

1. Buy time in bulk. The plan ladder rewards commitment steeply: $19.99 for one month, $8 a month for three, $6 a month for six, $5 a month for twelve. If you have decided to pay at all, the annual plan is the only price that is competitive with mid-market rivals.

2. Redeem a discount code. Fitia has a built-in code field that many users never see. On the screen where subscription prices appear, scroll down, tap Redeem Code, and enter the code before checkout. Fitia distributes codes through promotions and creators, so it costs nothing to check for one before paying full price.

3. Work the referral program. This one is unusually generous. Share your referral code from the Plan tab under Recommend Fitia. Each friend who buys the annual plan with your code gets 10% off, and you get 1 free month of Premium. There is no cap: Fitia's help center states you can earn unlimited free months. Two annual-plan referrals a year cut your own renewal by a sixth. Twelve of them make your year free, and the help center puts no ceiling on it. A gym group, a family chat or a running club is enough to get there.

Start NutriScan onboarding to personalize your plan

Step-by-step: test Fitia properly before paying

  1. Install and finish onboarding on the free tier. Get your calorie and macro targets, then log two full days by text and barcode only. This tells you whether the free version alone covers your eating pattern.
  2. Check your meal count. If you needed a fifth entry either day, note it: that is a Premium trigger for you.
  3. Start the 3-day trial on a normal week. Choose the annual plan with the trial at the end of onboarding, or from the Get Premium banner in the Plan tab.
  4. Photo-log every meal for all 3 days. Count how many estimates you accept as-is versus correct manually. Your acceptance rate is the single best predictor of whether you will still use the app in month three.
  5. Decide on day 2, not day 3. Cancel keeps Premium until the trial ends, so canceling early costs nothing. If you keep it, screenshot the price you were charged; it is your reference point if the renewal price changes next year.
  6. Before paying, tap Redeem Code and ask a Fitia-using friend for a referral code. Ten percent off the annual plan takes it to about $54, and your friend gets a free month.

Where NutriScan fits

I work on NutriScan, so read this section with that in mind. Both apps lead with photo logging. The difference is where the paywall sits. Fitia keeps photo logging entirely inside Premium, with a 3-day trial as the only way to try it. NutriScan's free plan includes 5 meal scans a week with no card and no trial clock, each with full macros, micronutrients and a NutriScore. Premium removes that cap and adds diet plans, fasting tools and the Monika voice assistant, at about $59 a year. Our numbers are in the NutriScan pricing breakdown.

What I would choose

For a text-and-barcode logger with a simple meal structure, Fitia's free version is genuinely usable, more usable than the free tiers of apps that gate the database itself. Take the free tier and keep your money.

For a photo logger, the decision is really between paying $59.99 a year for Fitia's bundle or picking a cheaper single-purpose scanner. Fitia wins if you will actually use the meal plans, recipes and shopping lists; it loses on pure price if scanning is all you want.

Whatever you choose, never pay the $19.99 monthly rate for more than one month. The plan ladder exists to make that price look bad, and it succeeds.

On the US App Store: $19.99 for 1 month, $23.99 for 3 months, $35.99 for 6 months, $59.99 for 12 months, or $89.99 for a 1-year family plan. The annual plan works out to $5 a month. Prices can vary slightly by country and active offer.
