Is BodyFast Free? BodyFast Coach Pricing Explained

TL;DR - Is BodyFast free?
• Free forever: the fasting timer, 10+ plans such as 16:8 and 5:2, reminders, fasting stages, weight tracking, water tracker and the in-app knowledge base.
• Paid: the BodyFast Coach, which writes a new plan every week and adds daily coaching, challenges, recipes and the AI Food Scanner.
• Coach prices: ten price points on the US App Store, from $11.99 a month to $69.99 a year.
• Trial: the 1-week website trial is discounted, not free, and rolls into a monthly plan on day 8.
• Refunds: the 30-day website guarantee pays out only if you used the app heavily first.
A 2025 network meta-analysis in the BMJ pooled 99 randomized trials with 6,582 adults and found that intermittent fasting reduced body weight compared with eating freely, but time-restricted eating did no better than an ordinary calorie-restricted diet (Semnani-Azad et al., 2025). As a NutriScan nutritionist, I start there because BodyFast sells a weekly fasting schedule, and the value of a schedule depends on whether the schedule itself does anything a plain calorie target would not.
This guide answers the question in the title using BodyFast's own store listings, help center, terms and refund policy as of September 2026.
Here is what I checked, in order:
- □ Whether the free version is a trial or permanent
- □ Every Coach price on the US App Store listing
- □ How the website 1-week trial converts
- □ Whether the weekly plan beats a fixed schedule in trials
- □ The one number that decides what you actually pay (near the end)
Starting with the free version.
The gap between the cheapest and dearest way to buy the same Coach is the whole story
The short answer: the timer is free, the Coach is not
BodyFast is made by BodyFast GmbH, a company based in Gräfelfing near Munich, Germany, run by managing directors Patrick Hammer and Matthias Schmeißer according to its terms and conditions. On the US App Store the app holds a 4.7 rating from about 145,000 ratings. On Google Play it shows 4.6 stars from about 370,000 reviews and more than 10 million downloads. The app is available in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish and needs iOS 15.1 or later.
Both listings describe the business model with the same sentence: "The download and use of the BodyFast app is free of charge. Full access to all available Coach features is limited to subscribers." That is accurate. You can run a 16:8 or 5:2 schedule, get reminders, log your weight and drink water on the free plan for as long as you like. What you pay for is the Coach, a subscription that writes a new fasting plan for you every week and adds coaching content on top.
That puts BodyFast closer to Zero or Fastic than to apps that lock the timer itself. If you only want a free fasting clock, BodyFast delivers one.
What the free BodyFast version includes
BodyFast's help center article "What features are included in the free app version?" lists six things you get without paying:
- Fasting plans: more than 10 standard plans such as 16:8 or 5:2
- Fasting clock and weekly overview: a timer plus a week view of fasting and eating windows
- Notifications and reminders: alerts when a fast starts and when the eating window opens
- Water tracker
- Progress tracking: weight over time with statistics
- Knowledge base: articles about intermittent fasting inside the app
The store listings add fasting stages, a display of what is happening in the body during a fast, to that free list. The Coach comparison table in the help center marks two more features as "limited use" on the free plan: the 100+ recipes and the AI Food Scanner. In practice that means a small number of free uses before a paywall appears.
Three things are missing from the free plan that some fasting apps include: a personalized plan, the ability to create and save your own plan, and priority support. If you want to build a custom 18:6 schedule with different windows on different days, BodyFast puts that behind the Coach.

What BodyFast Coach costs on the App Store
BodyFast does not publish a price list. Its help center article "How much does the app cost?" says only that "subscription prices may vary depending on the subscription duration, purchase method, and other factors such as platform fees, marketing costs, or promotional offers" and that all options are displayed before you buy.
The US App Store listing is more useful. It publishes ten in-app purchases, all named "Coach subscription" plus a term. They are not ten different products. They are the price points BodyFast has used for four plan lengths, and Apple keeps every price point on the public listing.
| Listed in-app purchase | Price (USD) | Billing period | Effective monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coach subscription 1 month | $11.99 | Monthly | $11.99 |
| Coach subscription 1 month | $13.49 | Monthly | $13.49 |
| Coach subscription 1 month | $16.99 | Monthly | $16.99 |
| Coach subscription 3 months | $17.49 | Every 3 months | $5.83 |
| Coach subscription 3 months | $24.49 | Every 3 months | $8.16 |
| Coach subscription 3 months | $27.99 | Every 3 months | $9.33 |
| Coach subscription 3 months | $34.99 | Every 3 months | $11.66 |
| Coach subscription 6 months | $54.99 | Every 6 months | $9.17 |
| Coach subscription 12 months | $34.99 | Yearly | $2.92 |
| Coach subscription 12 months | $69.99 | Yearly | $5.83 |
Three conclusions follow from that table.
First, the same term appears at several prices. The help center article "Why did the price change on renewal?" explains the pattern: "Many new users start with a discounted price for the first subscription term. After this initial period, the subscription automatically renews at the regular price for the plan you selected." So $34.99 for 12 months is an introductory offer and $69.99 is the regular yearly rate. The same logic applies to $11.99 versus $16.99 for a month, and $17.49 versus $34.99 for a quarter.
Second, the spread between the best and worst way to buy the same app is wide. Twelve months at the $16.99 monthly regular price costs $203.88. Twelve months at the $34.99 introductory yearly price costs $34.99.
Third, the 6-month plan at $54.99 is rarely the right choice. It costs $9.17 a month, while the regular yearly plan at $69.99 costs $5.83 a month. The 6-month option only makes sense if you know you will stop before month nine.
WARNING
Prices outside the US are set in local currency. The store listings say you "pay the price set for your country and displayed in the app," and the help center publishes no country price list. The number on your own paywall screen is the only one that counts. Screenshot it before you confirm.

The website checkout and the 1-week trial
BodyFast also sells the Coach through a quiz on its website, the flow that most people meet through a social media or search ad. Purchases made there are managed at my.bodyfast.app and do not appear in your Apple or Google subscription list. The help center's "Can I try the Coach before subscribing?" is the article that explains the trial:
"We currently offer a discounted 1-week trial subscription on our website. The trial automatically converts into a monthly subscription unless it is cancelled within 7 days."
Read that twice. The trial is not free. It is a discounted week that rolls into a monthly plan on day eight. The same article says existing app users can sign in on the website to see the offer, and that website purchases come with a 30-day right of withdrawal "provided that you meet the refund policy conditions." Those conditions are strict and are covered below.
Two practical notes for web buyers:
- Link the accounts. After paying on the website, open the app and tap "I already have an account," then sign in with the same email or the same Google or Apple login. The help article "How can I access my web subscription?" says the subscription activates automatically once you are in the correct account. Skip this step and the app shows you a paywall as if you had never paid.
- Know your channel. BodyFast's "How can I cancel my Coach subscription or trial period?" article warns that if your subscription is not listed in Google Play or the App Store, you probably bought it on the website. Canceling in the wrong place does nothing.
The terms also mention one-off purchases such as the "Expert Fasting Guide" e-book, and a certified eight-week online prevention course in nutrition that German statutory health insurers may reimburse under section 20 of the German Social Code (SGB V). Both are separate products with their own rules, and neither is part of the Coach subscription.
What the Coach adds over the free app
According to the help center article "What are the benefits of the BodyFast Coach?", a Coach subscription adds:
- A personalized weekly fasting plan based on your goals, progress, age, weight and activity level, regenerated every week
- Access to more than 50 fasting plans and the ability to create and save your own
- One "Joker Day" per week, a day off from fasting that the plan adjusts around
- Daily coaching messages with knowledge, tips and motivation
- Weekly health and fitness challenges
- Full access to 100+ recipes and the AI Food Scanner, both limited on the free plan
- Priority support from the SOS expert team
The AI Food Scanner is new. The Google Play changelog describes it as a photo-based tool that shows "calories, macro breakdown and nutrition insights," and the App Store lists a "Food Journal & Calorie Tracker" update that logs meals "by photo or text." That is a real change of direction for an app whose store description still says "You can eat what you want - no calorie counter needed." A Play Store review from August 2026 notes that the meal feedback carries a disclaimer that it is AI-generated, so treat it as an estimate, not a measurement.
One marketing line deserves a flag. Both store listings say the Coach helps you "reach your goals 30% faster." No source is given for that number, and I could not find a published study behind it. Treat it as a slogan.
Does a weekly fasting plan work better than a fixed one?
The Coach's core promise is that a plan that varies from week to week beats a fixed schedule. The trial evidence on fasting schedules does not support the idea that the schedule is the active ingredient.
- In the BMJ meta-analysis above, alternate-day fasting produced a modest extra weight loss of about 1.29 kg over continuous calorie restriction, while time-restricted eating, the 16:8 pattern most BodyFast plans use, was no better than a standard calorie-restricted diet (Semnani-Azad et al., 2025).
- A 12-month randomized trial of 139 adults with obesity in the New England Journal of Medicine compared calorie restriction with an 8-hour eating window against calorie restriction alone. Weight loss was 8.0 kg versus 6.3 kg, a difference that was not statistically significant (Liu et al., 2022).
- When calories were matched exactly, a 12-week randomized trial in Annals of Internal Medicine found a 10-hour eating window produced 2.3 kg of weight loss against 2.6 kg for the usual eating pattern, again no meaningful difference (Maruthur et al., 2024).
- Early time-restricted eating did add about 2.3 kg of extra loss over 14 weeks in a JAMA Internal Medicine trial, and the authors attributed it to eating roughly 214 fewer calories a day, not to the clock itself (Jamshed et al., 2022).
What does have evidence is the app layer around the schedule. A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis of 11 randomized trials with 1,717 participants in the Journal of Medical Internet Research found that mobile apps produced greater weight loss than usual care, with self-monitoring and feedback as the common features (Pujia et al., 2025). Daily reminders, a visible plan and weekly check-ins are what the Coach sells. So the honest framing is this: the weekly plan is unlikely to burn more fat than a fixed 16:8 you set yourself, but the structure may help you keep going, and consistency is where fasting results come from.
How to cancel BodyFast Coach
The cancel path depends on where you paid, and BodyFast's own help article opens with a warning worth repeating: "Deleting the BodyFast app or your BodyFast account does not automatically cancel your subscription." You keep Coach features until the end of the paid period, and you need to cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.
Website purchase
- Open the BodyFast app and go to the "Me" tab.
- Tap the gear icon to open settings.
- Scroll down and tap "Manage subscription," then follow the cancel option.
- If "Manage subscription" is not visible, sign in at my.bodyfast.app/manage_subscription with the account you created after purchase and cancel there.
- For PayPal subscriptions started before December 2023, cancel in PayPal's Autopay settings instead.
Google Play purchase
- Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile icon.
- Tap Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select BodyFast and tap Cancel subscription.
App Store purchase
- Open iPhone Settings and tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select BodyFast and tap Cancel.
The terms add one detail for Apple billing: the fee "is already collected 24 hours before the start of the respective billing period," which is why the 24-hour cancel deadline matters more on iPhone than anywhere else.
Refunds: the 30-day guarantee has three conditions
Refund rights split cleanly by channel, and the split is the same one that applies to Fastic, Zero and most fasting apps.
App Store and Google Play. BodyFast's terms state that for purchases made through an app store, "your withdrawal rights and refund requests are managed directly through the app store provider. In such cases, BodyFast is unable to process or approve refunds directly." For Apple, use the Report a Problem page. For Google, use the Play refund form; the help center adds that if Google's review does not resolve the case, you can email [email protected] with your Google Play email address or GPA order number and the team will "take a closer look." That is a goodwill offer, not a rule.
Website purchase. The refund policy, last updated 30 June 2025, offers a 30-day money-back guarantee for Coach subscriptions bought on the website, but only if all three of the following are true:
- You contact BodyFast within 30 days of the initial purchase.
- You completed at least two continuous fasting weeks of your Coach program.
- Your user history shows you read at least 80 percent of the daily Coachings and completed at least 50 percent of the weekly challenges.
DANGER
The policy calls these conditions "the sole basis for being eligible." If you stopped using the app after four days, you do not qualify. The guarantee pays out to people who were already consistent, which is the group least likely to want the money back.
The refund request goes to [email protected] with the email used at payment, the email registered in the app and your App User ID, which you find by scrolling to the bottom of the settings screen.
Two statutory routes sit alongside the guarantee. Consumers in the EEA or Switzerland have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the purchase date, with a pro-rated deduction for service already used if you asked for it to start immediately. Residents of California and Connecticut can cancel before midnight on the third business day after purchase for a full refund. One-off digital products such as the e-book are excluded once the download link has been sent.
If you want the general rules for every fasting app in one place, our guide to fasting app refund policies covers Apple, Google and web purchases side by side.
- ✓ Free version, Coach prices, website trial, the research, cancel and refund rules: done
- → The one number that decides what you pay (this is the reveal)

The one number that decides what you pay: $169
Four sections of prices come down to a single figure. A year of BodyFast Coach bought at the $16.99 regular monthly rate costs $203.88. The same year bought once at the $34.99 introductory annual price costs $34.99. The gap is $169 for identical features.
No feature on the Coach comparison table changes between those two purchases. The only variable is which button you tap on the paywall, and whether you tap it during an introductory offer. That makes the buying decision simpler than the feature list suggests:
- If you are going to use the Coach, buy the longest term at the introductory price, once.
- If you are not sure, stay free. The timer, the plans and the reminders do not expire.
- Never drift into month-to-month billing at the regular rate. That is the $203.88 path.
Then check the renewal price. The help center is explicit that the second term bills at the regular rate, so a $34.99 first year becomes a $69.99 second year unless you cancel. Set a calendar reminder for day 350, not day 365.
BodyFast added an AI Food Scanner in 2026, but only for Coach subscribers
Is BodyFast Coach worth it?
Trustpilot is not kind to BodyFast: a 3.6 TrustScore from about 190 reviews, with 39 percent five-star and 49 percent one-star ratings. The one-star reviews cluster around unexpected renewals and difficulty finding the cancel button, which is consistent with a two-channel subscription that is easy to buy in the wrong place. The five-star reviews praise the interface and report steady weight loss with the weekly plans.
TIP
Pay for the Coach if you know from experience that you stop fasting after two or three weeks without a structure, you like challenges and daily messages, and you can buy the 12-month plan at the introductory price. Stay free if you already have a schedule that works and you track food elsewhere.
For comparison, Fastic's pricing follows a similar free-timer-plus-paid-coaching model with a 14-day money-back window, and Simple's pricing leans harder on an AI coach chat. If coaching quality is your main criterion, our roundup of fasting apps with coaching compares them on that axis.

Where NutriScan fits
BodyFast starts from the clock and has only recently added a food scanner as a Coach extra. NutriScan starts from the plate: 5 AI photo scans a week on the free plan, unlimited on Premium at about $59 a year, returning calories, protein, carbs and fat for mixed meals, with a fasting tracker alongside.

If the research above convinced you that what you eat inside the window matters more than the window, NutriScan's pricing post sets out the free and paid tiers on the same terms as this one.
FAQ
Is the BodyFast app free?
Yes. The free version includes more than 10 fasting plans such as 16:8 and 5:2, the fasting timer with reminders, fasting stages, weight and body measurement tracking, a water tracker and the knowledge base. The BodyFast Coach, which builds a new personalized plan every week and adds daily coaching, challenges, recipes and the AI Food Scanner, is a paid subscription.
How much does BodyFast Coach cost?
The US App Store lists ten Coach price points: 1 month at $11.99, $13.49 or $16.99; 3 months at $17.49, $24.49, $27.99 or $34.99; 6 months at $54.99; and 12 months at $34.99 or $69.99. The lower price for each term is usually an introductory offer for the first billing period, and the plan renews at the regular price. BodyFast says prices vary by duration, purchase channel, platform fees and promotions.
Does BodyFast have a free trial?
Not a free one in the usual sense. BodyFast's help center says it offers a discounted 1-week trial subscription on its website, which converts into a monthly subscription unless it is canceled within 7 days. The app stores show introductory prices for the first term instead of a free period.
How do I cancel BodyFast Coach?
Website purchase: open the app, go to the Me tab, tap the gear icon, tap Manage subscription, or sign in at my.bodyfast.app. Google Play: Play Store, profile icon, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, BodyFast, Cancel subscription. App Store: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, BodyFast, Cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel the subscription.
Can I get a refund from BodyFast?
It depends on where you paid. App Store and Google Play purchases are refunded only by Apple or Google. Website purchases have a 30-day money-back guarantee, but only if you completed two continuous fasting weeks, read at least 80 percent of the daily Coachings and finished at least 50 percent of the weekly challenges. EU and Swiss residents can also withdraw within 14 days, and California and Connecticut residents within three business days.
Why does the App Store list ten different BodyFast prices?
Apple keeps every in-app purchase price point a developer has used on the public listing. BodyFast sells four plan lengths, and each one has been offered at an introductory price and a regular price, which is how four plans become ten entries.
