Is My Macros+ free?
Yes. My Macros+ is free to download and free to use for daily macro tracking. The App Store lists the app at $0 with optional in-app purchases, and the Google Play listing says the same: "A MM+ Pro level membership is an optional monthly subscription."
Two features sit in the free tier that competitors charge for, and both are listed as plain features on Google Play with no Pro tag: "Barcode scanner - scan and quickly track your food" and "Set your nutrition goals by gram". Neither store listing mentions ads anywhere, and no review in the recent US sample complains about them.
That matters more than it sounds, because the two biggest names in this category went the other way. MyFitnessPal moved barcode scanning behind Premium in 2022, and MacroFactor has no free tier at all beyond its trial. On a like-for-like basis, My Macros+'s free plan does more than either.
What you get without paying
Pulling the free features out of the two store listings and the homepage, the free version of My Macros+ covers:
- Barcode scanning and a nutrition label scanner
- Macro goals set in grams, not percentages
- A food database of 5 million-plus items, once global search is switched on
- Custom foods entered straight off the label, with the app doing the per-gram conversion
- Any serving size for any food, including edits to preloaded entries
- Body weight logging with trend graphs
- Water tracking in cups, fluid ounces, milliliters or gallons
- My Circle, which shows friends' and clients' logs in real time
- Offline tracking against a local database
- A one-off macro calculator in the Set Nutritional Goals screen
- No ads
There is a catch buried in the FAQ that costs new users a lot of goodwill. The app ships with a local database of roughly 40,000 foods. The 5 million number only applies once you turn global search on, and that switch is off by default: "Global search increases the food database from ~40,000 food items to over 5 Million! To turn on global search visit the Search page through the left side menu."
If you install My Macros+, search for a supermarket brand, and get nothing, you have not hit a paywall. You have hit a default. Turn global search on before you judge the database.

What MM+ Pro adds
Pro is the main paid tier. Between the pricing page and the App Store description, it unlocks:
- Full web access at getmymacros.com, so you can log from a browser
- Unlimited macro goals, which is what carb cycling, high and low days, and refeeds need
- Unlimited meals per day, instead of the fixed meal slots
- Diet Summary, a breakdown of your diet, body weight and most-eaten foods over any date range
- Detailed Analysis, which plots any two data points against each other, such as calories against weight change
- Spreadsheet export of your whole log as CSV
- Smart Search, which pre-fills results with foods you commonly eat together
- Advanced meal copying and saving meals as reusable recipes
- Bodyweight goals with target weights and trends
- Pro macro calculator with more inputs than the free one
- Meal timers, per-day and per-meal notes, and flexible carb and fat ratios
- Apple Watch access and priority support
That last one deserves attention before you commit. CSV export sits behind Pro. If you track for two years on the free tier and then want your history in a spreadsheet, the export is a $29.99 decision at the moment you are trying to leave.
My Macros+ Pro prices in 2026
Here is where the two doors matter.

The website plans come straight off the pricing page, which labels the annual plan "17% off" and works out to $2.50 a month. The App Store numbers come from the in-app purchase list on the US App Store listing, which shows "My Macros+ Pro Monthly $3.99" and "My Macros+ Pro Annual $34.99" alongside older $29.99 and $19.99 entries that are no longer the headline prices.
Same subscription, $5 more a year when you buy it inside the app
Buying on the web instead of inside the app saves $5 a year and $1 a month. That is not a coincidence, and it is not unique to this app: Apple and Google take a cut of in-app purchases, and developers who run their own checkout often price the web lower.
One caution on the discount banner. The pricing page contains a hidden "50% OFF APPLIED" block that appears when you arrive with a coupon code, usually from an affiliate or a coach. If you landed on the page through a link like that, check what the checkout actually charges on renewal, because promotional first-year pricing and renewal pricing are rarely the same number.
Your Pro subscription is tied to the account, not the device. The pricing FAQ is clear: "Your My Macros+ Pro subscription is linked to your My Macros+ account, not a specific device, so if you sign up for Pro, it will be active wherever you are. Web, iOS, Android, your My Macros+ account will be unlocked everywhere." So buying on the web and using the iPhone app is a supported path, not a workaround.
Macro Coach is a separate subscription
This is the part that trips people up. Macro Coach is not part of Pro. It is a second product with its own price.
The Macro Coach page lists it at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, and it includes all Pro features at no extra charge. What you are paying for on top of Pro is the coaching logic: an initial macro target from a questionnaire, then weekly updates to those targets based on your check-ins.
So the ladder looks like this:
- Free: log food, scan barcodes, set gram goals, track weight and water.
- Pro at $29.99 a year: you decide your own numbers, the app gives you tools and analysis.
- Macro Coach at $99.99 a year: the app decides your numbers and adjusts them weekly, Pro included.
If you already know your targets, or your coach sets them, Macro Coach is $70 a year of overlap. If you have no idea what to eat and you keep stalling, that is exactly the problem it is built for. Adjusting targets from real intake data is a category of its own, and several apps now do it; we compared the main ones in apps that adjust macro targets.
Is there a My Macros+ free trial?
Macro Coach has one. The Macro Coach page shows a "Start 14-Day Free Trial" button with the standard terms attached: "You can cancel anytime. Trial will convert to a subscription after 14-days."
MM+ Pro does not advertise one. The pricing page sends you straight to checkout with a "Get Started Now" button on both the monthly and annual cards, with no trial copy anywhere on the page. Apple's in-app purchase list shows some low-priced entries at $1.99 and $2.99 that look like introductory offers rather than free trials, but the company does not describe a Pro trial in its own materials.
Treat the 14-day free trial as a Macro Coach feature only. If you want to test Pro, the monthly plan at $2.99 on the web is the cheapest way to look around for a month.
The store listings disagree about what is free
The iOS description, last updated 14 September 2026, tags two features as paid: "unlimited meals with Pro" and "Create unlimited macro goals with Pro". The Google Play description, last updated 10 August 2026, lists both as plain features with no Pro tag: "As many nutrition goals as you want" and "Have as many meals as you want."
Two readings fit. Either the free line moved during 2026 and the Play listing has not caught up, or the tiers genuinely differ by platform. Nothing in the public material settles it, so check what your own install actually allows before you plan a carb-cycling week around unlimited goals. Add a second macro goal and a fifth meal on day one. If the app asks for money, you have your answer.

Refunds: a 7-day window, and only on the web
The refund policy is short and specific: "Our refund policy is a 100% money back refund 7 Days after the initial purchase through getMyMacros.com. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund or exchange after this period."
Three things follow from that sentence.
It only covers web purchases. If you subscribed through the App Store or Play Store, My Macros+ never took your money and cannot return it. You request that refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com or from Google in the Play Store, under each store's own policy.
It runs from the initial purchase, not from a renewal. Some apps extend the window to renewal charges. This policy does not say so. An annual plan that auto-renews in month 13 is, by the letter of the policy, outside the window.
You have to email, not click. The policy routes requests to [email protected], and asks you to write within 7 days of the initial purchase. There is no self-service refund button.
Set a calendar reminder for a few days before any annual renewal. The terms of service, last updated 29 April 2025, confirm each plan "shall auto-renew until your membership is cancelled and/or terminated."
How to cancel My Macros+
Cancel where you bought, which is the rule for every app subscription and the one people get wrong. The company's FAQ lists all three paths.

Switching between monthly and annual is not self-service. The pricing FAQ asks you to write to support and have them swap it over.
There is a failure mode worth naming, because a September 2026 one-star App Store review describes it exactly: a user cancelled through Apple in 2024, the subscription disappeared from their Apple account, and they say the charges continued. The usual cause is two subscriptions on one account, one bought through Apple and one bought on the web, with only the Apple one cancelled. If a charge survives a cancellation, sign in on the website and check Edit Profile for a second live subscription before you assume anything worse.
Who built it, and why the app works this way
My Macros+ was founded by Jason Loewy, an IFPA professional bodybuilder and powerlifter, who is credited as founder on the company's own homepage and describes starting the app 13-plus years ago out of frustration with existing diet trackers. The app shipped on the App Store on 28 October 2011.
That origin explains the feature priorities better than any marketing page does. Unlimited meals instead of fixed breakfast-lunch-dinner slots, gram-level goals rather than percentages, multiple macro goals for training and rest days, and My Circle for coaches watching clients are all bodybuilding-first design choices.

Does paying for a tracker actually help?
Worth asking before any subscription, because the evidence points at a behavior, not a feature list.
A systematic review of digital self-monitoring in behavioral obesity treatment found that greater digital self-monitoring was linked to weight loss in 74% of the cases it examined (Patel et al., 2021). The logging method you will actually repeat beats the thorough one you abandon.
Disengagement is the real enemy. In a 6-month technology-based weight loss program, participants stayed consistent with diet logging for a median of 10 weeks and weight logging for 4, against 19.5 weeks for activity tracking, and greater consistency with diet and weight logging was associated with greater weight loss (Carpenter et al., 2022).
Accuracy is the other half. In a systematic review comparing dietary assessment methods against doubly labeled water, the majority of studies reported significant under-reporting of energy intake (Burrows et al., 2019). So a tracker is a trend instrument, not a scale. Use the numbers to see direction over weeks.

What reviewers actually complain about
This is the complaint from the checklist at the top.
My Macros+ holds 4.68 stars across 33,738 US App Store ratings and 4.6 stars across 7.36K Google Play reviews, with 100K-plus Play downloads. Those are strong numbers for a tracker that has been shipping since 2011.
Reading the 50 most recent US reviews, the criticism clusters in three places, and only one of them is about money:
- Search and database gaps. "Food choices are limited even with global choices turned on" and "the library of food to choose from is limited" recur across one, two and three-star reviews. A September 2026 update rebuilt search and merged local history with the global database, and a five-star review from the same window says "the improvements to food search are sooo good," so this one is actively moving.
- Sync. One reviewer reports logging on the website and seeing nothing appear on the phone.
- Price versus what the free tier delivers. One one-star review reads: "This is not worth the $35 per year they want for pro. Food database is pathetic." Another, at two stars: "Still trying to figure out how to fully use this tracker without having to pay more money for the AI assistant."
That last pair is the honest summary of the risk. If the database does not find your foods, the free tier is disappointing and the Pro tier does not fix it, because Pro adds analysis and flexibility, not food coverage. Test the search on your actual groceries before you pay for anything.
The five-star reviews describe a different app, and the difference is consistent: they are from people who built a custom food library. "Once I made my custom foods and meals, I am able to so easily track myself." "Great app for tracking, especially once you've got your recipes and regular items added." Free custom foods are the app's real feature, and the payoff arrives a few weeks in.
The app gets faster once your regular foods are saved
Should you pay for My Macros+ Pro?
Stay free if you log the same foods most days, set one macro goal, and mainly want a barcode scanner and a weight graph. The free tier covers all of that, and it covers it without ads.
Pay for Pro at $29.99 a year if you need different targets on training and rest days, you want to log from a browser, or you want your data as a CSV. Buy it on the website. The same subscription costs $34.99 in the App Store.
Pay for Macro Coach at $99.99 a year if you do not know your numbers and you want the app to move them every week. Take the 14-day trial first and put a reminder on day 12.
Skip it if your first three searches for foods you actually eat come back empty after you turn global search on. That is the app's weakest point by its own reviews, and no paid tier fixes it.
