Is WeightWatchers Free? WW Pricing and Plans Explained

Written by NutriScan TeamApp ComparisonNutrition Tips

WeightWatchers pricing compared across CORE, CORE+ and MED+ plans, showing there is no free version of the WW app

Is WeightWatchers free? No. The WW app has no free tier. In the US, CORE starts at $12 a month and CORE+ at $22 a month, both on a 12-month commitment, and MED+ costs $25 for the first month and then $74 a month, with GLP-1 medication billed on top. The only free route is a limited-time 30-day trial, which rolls into a $24 monthly fee if you forget to cancel. Prices below come from the WeightWatchers plans page as checked on September 15, 2026.

TL;DR: WeightWatchers pricing

  • Free version: none. The app downloads free, but logging and Points need a membership
  • CORE: from $12/month on a 12-month commitment ($144 a year)
  • CORE+: from $22/month on a 12-month commitment ($264 a year), adds unlimited coaching and Workshops
  • MED+: $25 first month, then $74/month (12-month plan) or $84/month (6-month plan), medication not included
  • Free trial: 30-day digital promo, then $24.00/month unless canceled
  • Cancellation: on a Commitment Plan, it takes effect at the end of the term

WeightWatchers removed $1.15 billion of debt through a pre-packaged Chapter 11 filing in May 2025. The company that came out on June 24, 2025 sells a different plan menu than the one most people remember, and two questions come up again and again: is the WW app free, and what does membership cost now?

This guide covers the US plan lineup (CORE, CORE+ and MED+), the commitment terms behind the "starting at" prices, the trial and cancellation rules, and what published research says you get for the money.

Is the WeightWatchers app free? No free version, three paid plans

The WW app has no free tier. You can install it from the App Store or Google Play at no cost, but food logging, Points, recipes and every other feature sit behind a membership. Most calorie trackers keep basic logging free and charge for extras, so WW works differently. If a free logging tier is what you want, a comparison of the cheapest nutrition apps will serve you better.

Here is the US lineup as listed on the WeightWatchers plans page:

PlanListed priceWhat the price assumesBuilt for
COREFrom $12/month12-month commitment, auto-renews for another 12 monthsApp-only Points tracking
CORE+From $22/month12-month commitment, auto-renews for another 12 monthsTracking plus unlimited coaching and Workshops
MED+$25 first month, then $74/month12-month plan ($84/month on a 6-month plan)GLP-1 prescriptions plus clinical care

Three details in the fine print matter more than the headline numbers:

  1. The "starting at" prices are commitment prices. $12 and $22 a month assume a 12-month term, and the plan auto-renews for another 12 months at the end unless you cancel.
  2. MED+ never includes the medication. The $74 to $84 a month covers prescription access, virtual clinician visits and insurance support. WW's own footnote says the cost of GLP-1 medications is not included.
  3. Promotions rotate. On September 15, 2026 the plans page advertised 50% off with a 12-month plan and 66% off a first month. The price you see next week may differ.

Man on a green screen holding up a contract while the words FINE PRINT appear on screenEvery WW price has a footnote. The footnote is where the real cost lives.

What each WeightWatchers plan includes

CORE: the Points program, app only

CORE is the digital WeightWatchers product. WW lists the Points Program, nutrition guidance, personalized Modes that adapt to your goals, an AI Body Scanner for progress beyond the scale, a member community, recipes and everyday tools. CORE members also get two free weeks of Coaching and Workshops as a preview of the next tier.

WW markets Points as the "#1 doctor-recommended" program. The footnote ties that to a 2023 Cerner Enviza survey of 500 doctors who recommend weight-loss programs, so read it as a survey result, not a clinical endorsement.

CORE+: tracking plus human support

CORE+ includes everything in CORE and adds unlimited coaching, Workshops and peer support. It also adds the GLP-1 Success Program (side-effect support and medication tracking for people who already have a prescription) and a Menopause Program for peri- to post-menopause support.

The Workshop layer carries most of the evidence. A 2021 review of commercial programs reported that in-person WW participants lost 3.1% to 5.5% of body weight at 12 months in randomized trials, while the one trial of WW Online it cited found no significant 12-month difference versus control (Laudenslager et al., 2021).

MED+: the GLP-1 clinic

MED+ pairs a telehealth weight-loss clinic with the WW program: access to GLP-1 prescriptions, virtual clinician visits, insurance and affordability support, Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program support, dosing and side-effect help, and protein and macro targets.

Any weight-loss number you see next to MED+ mostly reflects the drug. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, the 15 mg weekly tirzepatide group lost a mean 20.9% of body weight at 72 weeks (Jastreboff et al., 2022). That trial tested the drug, not a WW membership, so the medication drives that number. If you are comparing GLP-1 programs, Noom Med's pricing is a useful side-by-side.

WeightWatchers cost per year: three members, three prices

Woman staring into space while geometry formulas float around her faceMonthly prices are easy. Multiplying by the commitment term is where it gets interesting.

A tracker-first member on CORE. They sign the 12-month commitment at $12 a month and pay $144 for the year. Stopping early does not stop the bill: on a Commitment Plan, cancellation takes effect at the end of the term. If they quit opening the app in March, April through December still charge.

A Workshop regular on CORE+. They pay $22 a month on the same 12-month structure, $264 a year. Attending weekly, that works out to about $5 a meeting with the app included. Skip the meetings, and the extra $120 a year over CORE buys features they never open.

A MED+ member starting a GLP-1. They pay $25 for the first month, then $74 a month for the other 11 months: $839 for year one before a single dose of medication. If insurance declines coverage, the drug is a separate and usually larger bill.

Column chart of WeightWatchers first-year cost: CORE $144, CORE+ $264, digital month-to-month $288, MED+ $839Figure 1: First-year membership cost by plan. MED+ excludes medication. The $288 bar is 12 months at the $24 standard digital rate.

As Figure 1 shows, the MED+ membership alone costs nearly six times CORE, and the flexible month-to-month digital rate costs double the CORE commitment price. That second gap matters later.

WeightWatchers cancellation policy: the commitment-plan catch

The most common WW billing complaint is about the term, not the price. Here is how the official cancellation page describes it:

  • Commitment Plans: cancellation takes effect at the end of the Commitment Plan period. Cancel in month 3 of a 12-month plan and you keep paying through month 12. After the period ends, cancellation takes effect at the end of the membership month.
  • Pre-pay Savings Plans: cancellation takes effect at the end of the initial plan period you bought.
  • Monthly Plans: cancellation takes effect at the end of the membership month in which you cancel.

You can cancel online from your account or through 24/7 chat. The free trial terms list 800-651-6000 as the phone line.

Free trial auto-billing

WW's 30-day digital trial converts automatically. The terms say you are "automatically subscribed at the standard monthly fee (currently $24.00)" unless you cancel before midnight Eastern time on day 30. Set a reminder for day 27.

What the research says you are buying

WeightWatchers has a deeper trial record than most commercial programs. The fair summary: modest, real results that lean on support.

  • Versus doing it yourself: a 1-year randomized trial of 373 adults in the US, Canada and the UK found WW members lost 4.4 kg at 12 months versus 1.7 kg for a do-it-yourself group given free resources (Tate et al., 2022). WW funded the study.
  • Overall effect size: the 2021 review put in-person WW at 3.1% to 5.5% body-weight loss at 12 months, and cited a meta-analysis estimating 5.9 kg average loss versus no-diet controls (Laudenslager et al., 2021).
  • The personalized digital program: a 6-month single-arm study of 153 adults reported an average 5.05% weight loss, with 51% losing at least 5% (Pagoto et al., 2023). There was no control group, so treat it as a best-case estimate.
  • Diet quality: a randomized trial of 376 US adults found the digital WW program raised Healthy Eating Index scores by 5.3 points over 6 months versus 1.1 points with standard nutrition guidance, and members lost 5.4% of body weight versus 1.5% (Palacios et al., 2025). Several authors worked for or were funded by WW.

The strongest results come from versions with meetings and coaching, which cost more. The $12 app-only tier is the least-studied setup of the current product.

✨ The one number that decides the deal (about to reveal)

7 tips before you pay for WeightWatchers

  1. Price the term, not the month. Multiply the monthly rate by the commitment length before comparing WW to anything else. "From $12 a month" means $144 for the year with no early exit.
  2. Take the trial on the WW website. The 30-day promos live on weightwatchers.com, and web signups are easier to inspect and cancel from account settings.
  3. Decide on Workshops first. The research advantage sits with the supported tiers. If you will never attend a meeting, you are buying CORE, so compare it with cheaper trackers.
  4. On MED+, confirm drug coverage before month one. The membership excludes medication, and one insurance denial moves your total more than any WW discount.
  5. Calendar the auto-renewal. Plans renew for another full term. A reminder two weeks before the renewal date keeps it a decision.
  6. Screenshot the offer you sign up under. Promotions rotate, and a record of the price, term and trial length helps in a billing dispute.
  7. Time a real meal log during the trial. Points need you to look up or scan foods daily. If logging friction ended your last attempt, time how long one dinner takes to log.

The number that decides whether WW is worth it: $24

The number is $24, the standard monthly digital fee in WW's trial terms. Every other price in this guide is a discount off it.

CORE at $12 a month is half of $24, and you pay for that half price with a year you cannot leave. So the real question is how sure you are that you will still use WW in month 9. If you are sure, the commitment price is the good deal. If you are not, $24 for one flexible month is the cheaper mistake, and it tells you in four weeks whether Points fits your life.

Use it as a simple test: if you would not pay $24 for next month, do not sign the $144 year. The same logic works for CORE+ and MED+, where the gap between flexible and committed pricing is larger in dollars.

How to start or leave WW without losing money: 5 steps

  1. Run the plan quiz, then stop at checkout. WW's find-my-plan flow shows your price and term before payment. Read the term length twice.
  2. Start with the trial or the shortest term. Paying $24 for one flexible month costs less than learning in week 2 that a $144 annual commitment does not fit how you eat.
  3. Log every meal for the first 14 days. Points only work if the tracking happens, and two honest weeks show whether the system fits your schedule.
  4. Change tiers at the term boundary. Make CORE, CORE+ or MED+ decisions when the term rolls over, so you do not lock into a new commitment mid-way.
  5. Cancel, then check the effective date. Use account settings, chat or 800-651-6000, and read the date in the confirmation. On a Commitment Plan it is the end of the term.

Where NutriScan fits

WW sells a system: Points, meetings and accountability, at $144 to $839 a year depending on tier. If what you need is quick food logging without a coaching layer, a photo-first tracker does that job for less.

NutriScan lets you photograph a meal and get calories and macros for each item in seconds (Home > Camera Icon > Click Picture). See how it works in the meal scan guide.

Home > Camera Icon > Click Picture: every item on the plate, with its calories and macros.

The free plan includes 5 scans a week, and Premium, about $59 a year, adds unlimited scans. NutriScan also has fasting tracking and Monika, a voice-powered AI nutritionist you can ask questions. To set your own calorie and protein targets first, try the macro calculator.

FAQ

Is the WeightWatchers app free?

No. The WW app has no free version and no free tier. You can download it at no cost, but food logging, Points and every tracking feature need a paid membership. The cheapest way in is CORE, listed at $12 a month with a 12-month commitment.

How much does WeightWatchers cost per month?

In the US, CORE starts at $12 a month and CORE+ at $22 a month, both on a 12-month commitment. MED+ is $25 for the first month, then $74 a month on a 12-month plan or $84 a month on a 6-month plan. GLP-1 medication is billed separately.

Does WeightWatchers have a free trial?

WW runs 30-day free trial promotions for its digital product on weightwatchers.com. After day 30, billing starts automatically at the standard monthly fee, listed at $24.00, unless you cancel before midnight Eastern time on the 30th day.

Can I cancel WeightWatchers anytime?

You can submit a cancellation anytime, but on a Commitment Plan it takes effect at the end of the commitment period. On a monthly plan it takes effect at the end of the membership month in which you cancel.

Is WeightWatchers still in business after the 2025 bankruptcy?

Yes. WW International filed a pre-packaged Chapter 11 case in May 2025 to remove $1.15 billion of debt and completed the restructuring on June 24, 2025. The app, Workshops and clinic kept running through the process.

How does WW pricing compare with other nutrition apps?

WW's $144-a-year entry tier costs more than many calorie trackers' premium plans and buys a structured program with Points rather than a plain logging tool. For plain tracking, see MyFitnessPal's tiers. For a coaching-style rival, Noom's pricing is the closest match, and for medication support compare Noom Med and other GLP-1 programs before defaulting to MED+.
