Is Unimeal Free? Unimeal Pricing, Trial and Refund Rules

Unimeal's help center article on what the plan costs has been rated by 1,762 readers, and only 239 of them found it helpful (Unimeal Help Center). It does not list a single price; it tells you to finish the quiz and read the checkout. As a NutriScan nutritionist I read a lot of subscription pages, and that vote count says what readers feel: they want the number before the quiz.
So is Unimeal free? No. You can download the app for free, but full access needs a paid plan. This guide collects what Unimeal's terms, help center and app store listings said on September 28, 2026 about price, trials, renewals, canceling and refunds, plus what research says about meal plans and fasting.

TL;DR: Unimeal pricing in 30 seconds
• Free plan: no. The app is a free download, but the meal plan, fasting plan and workouts need a subscription
• Trial: "free or paid", and it renews at the full price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends
• App Store prices (US): $6.99 a week, $19.99 a month, $39.99 for 3 months
• Website prices: shown only at checkout after the quiz, and they vary by region, bundle and plan length
• Refunds: generally no, case by case, with legal windows in California, the EU, the UK and Brazil
The quick answer: free download, paid plan
Unimeal's terms of service say it directly: "Some limited features of the Service may be available free of charge, but full access requires a paid subscription" (Unimeal Terms of Service). The personalized meal plan, the fasting schedule and the workouts are the paid part.
| Question | Short answer | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Free to download? | Yes, on iPhone and Android | App Store, Google Play |
| Free to use in full? | No, full access needs a subscription | Terms of service |
| Public price list? | No, prices show at checkout after the quiz | Help center |
| Trial? | "Free or a paid trial" may be offered | Subscription terms |
| Auto-renews? | Yes, until you cancel | Subscription terms |
| Refunds? | Generally no, case by case | Refund policy |
The iPhone app's seller is Amoapps Limited, which also makes MadMuscles (Apple App Store). Unimeal says it works "worldwide in 150+ countries in 6 languages": English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian (Unimeal About).
What Unimeal includes
The Google Play listing describes five main features (Google Play):
- Intermittent fasting plans. You pick a fasting schedule and the app tracks it.
- Personalized meal plans. Built from your quiz answers.
- Smart AI scanner. Take a photo of a meal for nutrition information.
- Calorie and macro tracker. Log food and see calories, protein, carbs and fat.
- Weight tracker. Set a goal weight and log progress.
It also lists shopping lists, at-home workouts and a water tracker. Each meal plan has "simple step-by-step recipes" and a shopping list (Unimeal About).
The homepage calls the scanner a way to "scan common foods for a quick nutrition estimate" (Unimeal): an estimate, not a lab measurement.
The free trial, explained
Unimeal's subscription terms say: "We may offer a free or a paid trial subscription for service. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the trial, you will be automatically charged a price indicated on the payment screen for a chosen subscription period" (Unimeal Subscription Terms).
Three details matter:
- "Free or paid." A trial at Unimeal can cost money. A discounted first week or month is still a trial in these terms.
- 24 hours. Cancel at least one day before the trial ends. On the last day it is too late.
- The price on the payment screen. The renewal amount is whatever the checkout showed for the full period. Unimeal's own subscription terms end with: "Please take a screenshot of this information for your reference."
The terms of service add one more line worth knowing before you start: "We do not guarantee reminders before the trial expires" (Unimeal Terms of Service). A Better Business Bureau complaint from April 2026 describes exactly that. The customer was "specifically waiting for a notification that the trial was about to end" and got "no push notification, no email, and no countdown inside the app" before the full month was charged (BBB complaints). So the reminder is your job.
For comparison, our guides to the Cal AI free trial and the MyFitnessPal free trial show how other apps handle the same moment.

How much Unimeal costs
Unimeal does not publish a price page. Its terms say "our pricing varies based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, region, bundle, and duration of subscription" (Unimeal Terms of Service). The subscription terms list the possible billing periods as "each week, month, 6 months, year, or otherwise" (Unimeal Subscription Terms).
The closest thing to a public price list is the App Store, which shows every in-app purchase an app sells. On September 28, 2026, the US listing showed these (Apple App Store):
| App Store item | US price |
|---|---|
| 1-Week | $6.99 |
| 1 month / 1-Month / Monthly subscription | $19.99 |
| 3 months / 3-Month | $39.99 |
| Unimeal meal plan | $12.99 |
| Unimeal meal plan | $19.99 |
| Unimeal meal plan | $89.99 |
The store does not say which period the three "Unimeal meal plan" items cover, so I will not guess. What the table does show is what each billing period costs if you let it run for a year:
| Plan left on auto-renew | Price per period | Cost over 12 months |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly | $6.99 | $363.48 (52 weeks) |
| Monthly | $19.99 | $239.88 |
| 3-month | $39.99 | $159.96 |
Figure 1: The weekly plan looks cheapest at checkout and costs the most over a year
As Figure 1 shows, the weekly plan costs more than twice the 3-month plan per year. Unimeal's help center agrees in general terms: a quarterly or 6-month plan "can provide you with significant savings compared to a monthly subscription" (Unimeal Help Center).
Website prices can differ, because they come from the quiz checkout. For context on what other apps charge, our cheapest nutrition app comparison lists yearly prices side by side.
Why the renewal price is higher than the first payment
This causes the most complaints, so I will quote Unimeal's own words. Its help center article on renewal prices says: "Frequently discounted introductory periods are available to our users. Unless cancelled, when this period expires, the introductory period is followed by a full membership with a standard price" (Unimeal Help Center).
The terms of service put a limit on renewals. The renewal rate "will be no more than the rate for the immediately prior subscription period, excluding any promotional (introductory) and discount pricing, unless we notify you of a rate change" (Unimeal Terms of Service). In plain words: the cap protects you from a jump between two full-price periods. It does not protect you from the jump between the intro price and the full price.
The moment the renewal email arrives and the price is not the one you remember
Reviews describe the same pattern with bigger numbers. One US App Store reviewer wrote that they agreed "to a one week trial for $10", were then charged "another $50", and were told the subscription "would automatically renew every month for $100" (Apple App Store reviews). Treat that as one account, not a price list.

Do meal plans and fasting apps work? What the research says
Unimeal's pitch combines a meal plan, fasting and an app. Each of those has been studied on its own.
Meal planning. A study of 40,554 French adults, published in 2017, found that people who planned meals had better diet quality and more food variety. Planning was linked with lower odds of obesity: an odds ratio of 0.79 in women and 0.81 in men (Ducrot et al., 2017). This was an observational study, so it cannot show that planning causes weight loss.
Intermittent fasting. A 2025 network meta-analysis in the BMJ pooled 99 randomized trials with 6,582 adults. All intermittent fasting styles and plain calorie restriction reduced body weight compared with no diet. Against calorie restriction, only alternate day fasting showed an extra benefit, of 1.29 kg (Semnani-Azad et al., 2025). In trials of 24 weeks or longer, the diet strategies beat unrestricted eating but not each other.
Time-restricted eating on its own. In the TREAT trial, 116 adults were randomized to a 16:8 eating window or three structured meals a day. The authors concluded that time-restricted eating, "in the absence of other interventions, is not more effective in weight loss than eating throughout the day" (Lowe et al., 2020). A 12-month trial in 139 adults with obesity found the same when both groups cut calories: 8.0 kg lost with a time window and 6.3 kg without, a difference that was not statistically significant (Liu et al., 2022).
Weight loss apps. A 2022 meta-analysis found smartphone app programs produced weight loss that peaked at 2.18 kg at 3 months and was 1.63 kg at 12 months. The authors called the effect real but "minimal in their current states" (Chew et al., 2022).
A meal plan only pays off on the days you actually cook from it
My reading: the fasting window matters less than total calories and sticking with it. A meal plan helps if you cook from it, so weigh the price against how many months you will really use it. If fasting with guidance is what you want most, our list of fasting apps with coaching compares the options.

✨ The charge that keeps billing after you cancel (right after this)
Where you paid decides how you cancel
Unimeal sells through three channels, and each one cancels in a different place. The help center's payment article says "All payments can be made only through the website" (Unimeal Help Center), yet the App Store lists in-app purchases. If you are not sure where you paid, use this test: "If you don't see your subscription in the list of subscriptions on your App Store or Google Play, it means that you likely purchased it directly through our website" (Unimeal Help Center).
| Where you paid | Where to cancel | Who handles refunds |
|---|---|---|
| Unimeal website | unimeal.com, My account, My Subscription | Unimeal support |
| Apple App Store | Apple ID subscriptions | Apple |
| Google Play | Google Play subscriptions | Unimeal support |
Note the last row. Unimeal's refund policy says Google Play and website purchases both go to [email protected], while App Store refunds go to Apple (Unimeal Refund Policy).
How to cancel Unimeal, step by step
These steps come from Unimeal's cancellation articles (Unimeal Help Center).
If you paid on the website:
- Go to unimeal.com and open the top-right menu, then My account, then My Subscription.
- Enter the email you used to sign up and press Continue. It must be the same email you paid with.
- Click Turn-off auto-renewal (some pages call it Cancel renewal), then choose a reason.
- If you see "Your subscription information is updated every few hours", wait up to 24 hours. The cancel button appears after the data syncs.
- Repeat for every add-on or second subscription. Each has its own button.
- Check that the page shows "No active subscriptions" or an inactive status, and keep the cancellation email.
If you paid on iPhone: open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Unimeal and cancel (Apple Support).
If you paid on Android: open Google Play, tap your profile, go to Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, choose Unimeal and cancel (Google Play Help).
On every channel, cancel at least 24 hours before billing. In Unimeal's words, "deleting the app or unsubscribing from the newsletter does not cancel your subscriptions."
If you paused your plan: a pause is not a cancel. The help center says "once the pause period ends, your subscription will resume automatically" (Unimeal Help Center). Cancel before it ends. After canceling, you keep access until the paid period ends.
Unimeal refund policy
Unimeal's refund policy, last updated 17 March 2026, starts with the general rule: payments are non-refundable, but "in certain circumstances we may review and approve refund requests on a case-by-case basis at our sole discretion" (Unimeal Refund Policy). It also says a refund "can usually be claimed only during the subscription period." The terms of service add that "non-use of the app or services after purchase does not entitle you to a refund."
The legal exceptions are more specific:
| Where you live | Your right | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| California | Payment returned if you cancel | Before midnight of the third business day after purchase |
| EU and UK | Withdraw without a reason | 14 days from purchase, or from the start of a free trial |
| Brazil | Cancel without a reason | 7 calendar days from purchase |
There is a catch in the EU rule. If at checkout you gave "prior express consent to begin the performance during the right of withdrawal period" and acknowledged losing that right, you get no refund for digital content and only "a proportional refund" for a digital service (Unimeal Refund Policy). Read the checkout boxes before you tick them.
How to ask for a refund:
- Cancel first. The help center says, "Before proceeding with your refund request, make sure you cancel your subscription first" (Unimeal Help Center).
- Email [email protected] with your account email, the charge date and amount, and your reason.
- For App Store purchases, request the refund from Apple instead (Apple Support).
- If a refund is approved, the terms say to allow "at least 15 business days" for it to show.
On chargebacks, the terms ask you to contact Unimeal first and warn that a chargeback "may result in the immediate termination of your account." The terms also include binding arbitration under Florida law, with a 31-day opt-out for accounts created on or after 20 May 2025. Our guide to fasting app refund rules explains how Apple and Google treat these requests.
The charge that keeps billing after you cancel
You have been patient, so here it is. The charge that surprises Unimeal buyers most is not the trial or the renewal. It is the add-on.
Unimeal sells extras on top of the main plan. Its "Premium access" help article lists four (Unimeal Help Center):
- Intermittent Fasting Plan with fasting schedules and a tracker
- Workout Plan with "200+ workouts"
- Bundle of both "at a discounted rate"
- Guides on healthy habits
The terms of service explain the billing in two sentences: "These add-ons may be one-time purchases or recurring charges. Canceling your main subscription does not automatically cancel any recurring add-ons or additional subscriptions" (Unimeal Terms of Service). Each recurring add-on "is billed separately and must be canceled individually."
So you can cancel the meal plan, see it marked inactive, and still get billed for the fasting plan next month. One App Store reviewer said they chose "the $13 per month plan", then tapped a fasting offer whose button "simply said 'give it a try'" and turned out to be "a $20 per month button" (Apple App Store reviews). A BBB complaint from March 2026 says the same in quieter words: the customer "did not realize that enabling certain additional options would increase the cost" of the plan (BBB complaints).
Two checks stop it:
- Before you pay: read every screen after the quiz. Any offer with its own price, including a "give it a try" button, is a separate purchase. Screenshot the final checkout.
- After you cancel: open My Subscription again and look for a second active item. Then check your card statement for a second Unimeal line the following month.
What reviewers report
Ratings depend on where you look. On September 28, 2026, the US App Store showed 4.4 stars from about 13,000 ratings (Apple App Store), and Google Play showed 4.4 stars, about 28,000 reviews and 1M+ downloads (Google Play).
The Better Business Bureau tells a different story. Unimeal is not BBB accredited, and its profile shows 125 complaints in the last 3 years, with 64 closed in the last 12 months (BBB). Unimeal does reply: 66 are marked answered and 51 resolved. Recent complaints include a subscription that renewed after the user thought they had canceled, and a celiac user whose gluten-free profile still received recipes with wheat. The BBB review page averages 3.4 out of 5 from 118 reviews (BBB).
Most complaints point to intro prices that renew higher, add-ons that bill on their own, and canceling in the wrong place. All of it is in the terms, and easy to miss at the end of a long quiz.

Tips to pay less for Unimeal
- Screenshot the checkout and set a reminder two days before renewal.
- Skip the weekly plan if you plan to stay. A year of weekly billing costs $363.48.
- Pay in one place only. Two stores means two charges and two cancellations.
- Cancel right after you subscribe if you only want one period. You keep access until it ends.
- Know your legal window. California: 3 business days. EU and UK: 14 days. Brazil: 7 days.
Is Unimeal worth paying for?
Unimeal may suit you if:
- You want someone to decide what to cook this week, with a shopping list.
- You like a fasting timer and meal plan in one app.
- You will set a renewal reminder and check your bank statement.
It may not suit you if:
- You have a medical diet. One BBB complaint describes a celiac user getting wheat recipes on a gluten-free profile, so check every recipe yourself.
- You do not want to track renewal dates and add-ons.
- You mostly want to log what you eat. A free tracker and our macro calculator may be enough.
If grocery lists are the main draw, see our guide to meal planner apps with grocery lists before you pay.
Where NutriScan fits
I work for NutriScan, so weigh this section with that in mind. NutriScan (150k+ downloads, 4.6 stars) covers both halves of what Unimeal sells.
The food tracking side starts with a photo: you take a picture of your meal, tag the food type and cooking method, and the app estimates calories, protein, carbs and fat, which you can correct. The free plan includes 5 meal scans a week.

Home > Camera Icon > Click Picture
The meal plan side is Premium. You fill in a form with your goal, food preference, allergens such as gluten or dairy, meal times and cuisines, and NutriScan builds a 28-day diet plan with two options per meal and a daily target for calories, protein, carbs, fat and fiber.

Bottom Nav > Diet Plan
From that plan you can generate a weekly and a monthly grocery list and copy it to your notes.

Bottom Nav > Diet Plan > Grocery List tab
The fasting timer is free: pick 14:10, 16:8, 18:6, 20:4 or a custom window and it counts down on your lock screen.

Home > Top Tab "Fasting"
Premium removes the scan limit and unlocks the diet plan for about $59 a year. The details are on our NutriScan pricing page.

FAQ
Is Unimeal free?
No. The app is a free download, but Unimeal's terms say only limited features are free and full access requires a paid subscription.
How much does Unimeal cost?
Prices appear at checkout after the quiz and vary by region, bundle and plan length. On September 28, 2026 the US App Store listed $6.99 a week, $19.99 a month and $39.99 for 3 months.
Does Unimeal have a free trial?
Sometimes. Unimeal may offer a free or a paid trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, the plan renews at the full price shown on the payment screen.
How do I cancel Unimeal?
Website purchases: unimeal.com, My account, My Subscription, then turn off auto-renewal. App purchases: cancel in your Apple ID or Google Play subscriptions. Deleting the app cancels nothing, and each add-on is canceled separately.
Can I get a refund from Unimeal?
Only in limited cases. Payments are generally non-refundable and reviewed case by case during the subscription period. California allows 3 business days, the EU and UK 14 days unless waived at checkout, and Brazil 7 days. App Store refunds go through Apple.
Why did Unimeal charge me twice?
Usually an add-on or a renewal. Recurring add-ons such as the fasting or workout plan bill separately and keep running after you cancel the main plan. A second charge can also be the full-price renewal after a discounted first period.
