Best Noom Alternatives 2026 (Cheaper Habit Coaching) โ€‹

Noom's psychology-first approach genuinely works - so why do so many people cancel before their first renewal? ๐Ÿ’ธ

TL;DR - Best Noom Alternatives 2026

โ€ข The problem: Noom Weight costs $209/year (or $70/month on a 1-month plan), Fortune's own review lists variable coaching quality as a con, and the daily logging requirement can feel like a second job

โ€ข Closest habit-coaching swap: Simple, with the Avo AI coach. Simple publishes no list price, so budget from what is visible: $30/month per Fortune's tester, and App Store SKUs from $14.99 to $59.99

โ€ข Live human accountability: WW CORE at $12/month on a 12-month commitment, or Nourish with a licensed dietitian, where 94% of patients pay $0 out of pocket

โ€ข Just want the food log: MyFitnessPal free tier, or NutriScan with 5 free AI photo scans a week plus free NutriBites AI chat

โ€ข The catch: No alternative publishes a CBT lesson library as structured as Noom's. What the research supports is the coaching interaction itself, whichever brand delivers it

โ€ข Prices are standard US prices as of mid 2026 and change by region

A 2025 systematic review in Frontiers in Digital Health covering 35 coach-facilitated digital health studies opens with the problem coaching is meant to solve: a pooled dropout rate of 43% across digital health interventions. Its own finding is that human and AI coaching both showed a positive impact on engagement and lifestyle outcomes, while hybrid human-AI approaches need further refinement (Loughnane et al., PMC12058678).

As a NutriScan nutritionist, I review apps that promise to change how people eat and think about food. Noom is one of the more serious ones - built on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles, with daily lessons, food logging, and optional human coaches. It genuinely helps many people rethink habits, not just count calories.

But $209 per year on the annual plan, or $70 per month on a 1-month plan, is a significant ask (Noom pricing FAQ). Especially when coaching quality can vary and the daily lesson requirement starts to feel like homework. The review above makes clear that coaching matters, but the evidence does not say you need to pay Noom prices to access it. This guide covers seven alternatives organized by what they do differently, who they fit best, and what they actually cost. Prices below are standard US prices as of mid 2026 and change by region. And near the end, I'll share the free 2-minute daily loop that replaces most of what Noom's lessons train you to do.

Why People Leave Noom ๐Ÿค” โ€‹

Noom does a lot right. The CBT-based lesson structure is well-researched, the color-coded food system makes food decisions simpler, and community features add accountability. Fortune named Noom the best overall weight loss app in 2026 (4.0/5), with expert reviewer Jillian Robillard (MS, RD, LDN, CSSD) calling the behavior-change approach "the gold standard for weight loss" (Fortune, 2026).

Fortune's own review lists three cons against it: "Requires daily logging", "Coaching quality may vary", and "More expensive than basic food tracking apps" (Fortune, 2026). Those three are the reasons people leave.

1. The Price Adds Up Fast โ€‹

Noom Weight costs $17.42 per month on the 12-month annual plan, which totals $209 per year. On a 1-month plan, it costs $70 per month (Noom plan pricing FAQ). That's more than most dedicated calorie trackers and more than several coaching apps. Clinical add-ons stack on top of the base plan: Noom's Med and GLP-1 programs start at $39 to $149 for the first four-week supply, then run $99 to $299 a month (Noom cost page). We broke those tiers down in our Noom Med cost review.

Person adding up expenses on a calculator with a shocked reaction, the feeling of reviewing a year of subscription chargesRunning the renewal math: $209 base, then $99 to $299 a month if you add a Med program... it climbs quickly

2. Coaching Quality Is Inconsistent โ€‹

Optional coaching sounds valuable on paper, and Fortune lists "Coaching quality may vary" as a con. Noom now runs four coaching layers: Welli, its AI chat, a team of Noom Coaches you reach by escalating from Welli, a 1:1 Coach on the plans that include one, and Community Coaches. Noom's own page sets the ceiling on all of them: 1:1 Coaches "can't ... Act as licensed nutrition or mental health professionals" (Noom coaching FAQ). That matters when personalized guidance is the premium you're paying for.

3. Daily Logging Fatigue โ€‹

Noom requires consistent food logging and lesson completion to deliver its full value, and Fortune's con list names "Requires daily logging" outright. For users with irregular schedules, travel, or busy periods, the daily commitment becomes a burden. You can change your plan length from Noom's own subscription settings, but the program itself does not pause, so the months you skip are months you paid for.

Who Should Stay With Noom โš–๏ธ โ€‹

Before switching, check whether Noom's specific strengths match your situation:

  • You want a structured CBT curriculum. Noom's lesson library teaches the psychology of eating, not just calorie math. That depth is genuinely unique.
  • You're interested in the GLP-1 or clinical programs. Noom Med and GLP-1 Rx bundle medical support with the behavior-change program in a way most apps don't.
  • You've tried calorie trackers and they didn't stick. The lesson-first approach may make the difference if logging alone hasn't worked.

If you're still weighing Noom itself, our full Noom honest review covers the program in depth. If those bullets don't apply, one of the alternatives below will likely fit you better and cost you less.

BetterMe and Reverse Health publish only monthly rates, so their bars are twelve monthly payments, which is an upper bound rather than a real annual price. Simple's bar is its $59.99 App Store Premium SKU, whose duration Apple does not state.

As Figure 1 shows, six of the seven alternatives come in under Noom's $209 annual price, and two of them are usable indefinitely at $0.

1. Simple - Best for AI Habit Coaching at Lower Cost ๐Ÿค– โ€‹

Best for: Daily habit coaching and fasting, without lesson overwhelm.

Simple was named Best Weight Loss App for iOS by Fortune in 2026 (4.0/5) (Fortune, updated 4 August 2026), and its AI coach Avo won the 2025 MedTech Breakthrough award for Best Virtual Health Coach (Simple, 2025). Avo gives real-time guidance on food choices, fasting windows, and habit formation. Fortune recorded ratings of 4.7/5 on Apple and 4.5/5 on Android, checked when that page was updated on 4 August 2026 (App Store listing).

The philosophy is similar to Noom - build patterns, don't just count calories - but the delivery is different. Simple Premium covers personalized fasting and nutrition plans, progress tracking, educational content, and one-on-one coaching with Avo (Simple help centre). Avo answers any time. Noom's 1:1 Coaches check in about once a week (Noom coaching FAQ).

Fortune's tester Pete put it this way: "The overall tone of the app is supportive. It's non-judgmental, and when you log 'less-healthy' meals, the app offers ways you could potentially improve the meal." That's a direct parallel to Noom's color-coding feedback.

On price, be careful. Simple publishes no list price at any duration, and says the exact price appears at checkout. Fortune's tester recorded $30 a month; the live US App Store lists ten concurrent SKUs from $14.99 to $59.99, including a $59.99 Simple Premium tier. Ten SKUs at once is promo pricing, so treat any single figure as a snapshot. Simple's workbooks are a separate $29.99 purchase, not part of Premium.

Where Simple wins over Noom: Its cheapest visible SKUs land well under Noom's $209, native fasting integration, and AI coaching that responds immediately. Where Noom wins: The CBT lesson library is more structured, human coaches are available if you want a real person involved, and Noom actually publishes its prices.

2. BetterMe - Best for Workouts and Nutrition Together ๐Ÿ‹๏ธ โ€‹

Best for: People who want training and eating guidance in one app.

BetterMe was named Best Weight Loss App for Workouts by Fortune in 2026 (4.0/5) (Fortune, updated 4 August 2026). It sits between a fitness app and a lifestyle coach: customized workout plans, nutrition tools, habit tracking, and mindset content. Challenges and group workouts are a paid extra on top. Fortune recorded ratings of 4.7/5 on Apple and 4.5/5 on Android as of 4 August 2026 (Fortune).

Noom focuses almost entirely on the psychology of eating. BetterMe includes a mindset layer too, but also gives you exercise plans that progress in difficulty and directly connects what you eat to how you train. For users who found Noom's fitness integration too minimal, BetterMe addresses that gap.

At $14.99 a month, BetterMe costs less than Noom's $70 one-month rate. Do not count on a free trial: BetterMe's terms say a trial is offered only when the price screen says so, and otherwise "you will purchase our subscription without a trial" (BetterMe subscription terms, 29 July 2026). Fortune reviewer Paige scored workout variety 5 out of 5, calling the list of workouts within each genre "extensive", and gave progressive overload another 5 out of 5, noting that "Each workout is labeled as newbie, medium, advanced."

Where BetterMe wins over Noom: Workout variety, exercise programming, fitness-nutrition connection, lower base price. Where Noom wins: The psychology curriculum goes deeper on the eating-behavior side.

3. Reverse Health - Best for Women Over 40 ๐ŸŒธ โ€‹

Best for: Women in midlife or perimenopause looking for structure and community.

Reverse Health was named Best Weight Loss App for Motivation by Fortune in 2026 (4.5/5) (Fortune, updated 4 August 2026). The program runs on 12-week structured plans with meal plans, recipes, workout guidance, and a community of 80,000+ women at similar life stages. Fortune lists a base price of $19.99/month, with one, three, six and twelve-month options. Reverse Health publishes no annual figure and no free plan, so a real yearly plan will cost less than the twelve monthly payments Figure 1 charts.

The key differentiator is specificity: Reverse Health is designed for women 40 and older, with menopause-aware nutrition and workouts. Noom's approach is gender-neutral and does not address hormonal shifts, perimenopausal weight patterns, or the way sleep disruption changes appetite in midlife.

Fortune reviewer Paige rated her overall experience 5 out of 5, saying the in-app recommendations were "helpful for beginners or for experienced individuals" and that the app's notification reminders to work out or track food were "helpful but not rude."

Where Reverse Health wins over Noom: Menopause-aware programming, structured 12-week format, women-first community. Where Noom wins: Available to everyone regardless of age or gender, and the CBT curriculum applies broadly.

4. WW (WeightWatchers) - Best for Live Community Accountability ๐Ÿ‘ฅ โ€‹

Best for: People who want structure without strict calorie counting, plus live human accountability.

WW has been the default community-based weight loss program for decades, and its December 2025 redesign leans harder into personalization and behavioral tools (WW corporate, 16 December 2025). Points guide food choices without asking you to hit macro targets, though WW does now include macro tracking on every plan. Live workshops provide the scheduled human accountability that Noom's asynchronous text coaching lacks.

That's the main difference from Noom: WW's coaching and community sessions are live, calendared events you attend. Noom's are mostly async messages in a chat thread, and its 1:1 Coaches check in about once a week. For people who do better with a real meeting on the calendar, WW's structure simply works differently while staying grounded in habit formation.

WW has run a GLP-1 companion program since 2023 and relaunched it as an integrated GLP-1 platform in December 2025, acknowledging that many members combine prescription medication with lifestyle programs. CORE starts at $12/month on a 12-month commitment and CORE+ at $22/month, so $144 to $264 a year, with a clinical MED+ tier at $25 for the first month then $74/month (WW plans). A "50% off with a 12-month plan" banner is live as I write, so those are promo-inclusive rates. At $144, CORE saves $65 a year against Noom's $209.

Where WW wins over Noom: Live workshop accountability, an established community, lower entry cost, GLP-1 companion support. Where Noom wins: The CBT lesson library and individual psychological profiling go deeper than the Points framework.

5. Nourish - Best for Real Dietitian Access ๐Ÿฉบ โ€‹

Best for: Anyone who needs a licensed dietitian rather than a coach.

Nourish was named Best Weight Loss App for Meal Planning by Fortune in 2026 (4.0/5), and its approach is fundamentally different from every other app on this list: you work 1:1 with a licensed registered dietitian (RD) over telehealth, not an AI coach. Fortune recorded ratings of 4.8/5 on both Apple and Android as of 4 August 2026 (Fortune).

Noom's own page says its 1:1 Coaches "can't ... Act as licensed nutrition or mental health professionals" (Noom coaching FAQ). Nourish's provider cards list credentialed RDs whose named specialties include GLP-1s, gut health, diabetes and prediabetes, high cholesterol and celiac disease (Nourish). If your situation involves any of those, a licensed RD can give guidance that sits outside Noom's scope of practice.

For US users with health insurance, Nourish says 94% of patients pay $0 out of pocket, with dietitians in network across all 50 states. Without insurance, Fortune puts a visit at about $145. Fortune reports that everything is customizable because it is based on your one-on-one work with a registered dietitian, who builds targets around your goals, health history, food preferences and lifestyle. Its tester Pete rated Nourish 4 out of 5 and set the scope: "Nourish isn't designed as a standalone food-tracking app the way Cronometer or MyFitnessPal is."

If you've been paying $209/year for Noom's psychology curriculum but really need condition-specific nutrition guidance, Nourish may cost you nothing by comparison.

Where Nourish wins over Noom: Credentialed support from a licensed RD, insurance coverage for most patients, condition-specific guidance. Where Noom wins: On-demand lessons and tracking in a self-contained app, no appointments needed.

6. MyFitnessPal (Free Tier) - Best for Tracking Without Coaching ๐Ÿ—„๏ธ โ€‹

Best for: People who want a food log and database, not lessons or coaching.

If what you actually used in Noom was the calorie log - and you skipped or tuned out the psychology lessons - there's no point paying a coaching-app price to maintain a food diary. MyFitnessPal's free tier gives you a food database of more than 20 million entries, which MFP calls one of the largest in the world (MyFitnessPal blog), macro totals on every entry, and Apple Health and Google Fit sync. Custom macro goals are reserved for Premium (MyFitnessPal Premium).

Two things to know. The barcode scanner has been Premium-only since 1 October 2022 for every account, not just new ones (MyFitnessPal support), and Premium is $79.99/year. The free tier also carries ads, which is why "ad-free logging" is listed as a paid benefit. But for someone who has already internalized the habits Noom teaches and just needs a reliable daily log, MFP's free tier covers the fundamentals without a coaching subscription. If MFP itself is your starting point, we ranked its rivals in our Best MyFitnessPal Alternatives 2026 guide.

Where MFP wins over Noom: Massive food database, free basic tier, broader integrations. Where Noom wins: The entire lesson system and behavior-change curriculum, which MFP doesn't attempt.

7. NutriScan - Best for Photo Logging Without a Coaching Subscription ๐Ÿ“ธ โ€‹

Best for: Photo-first food logging with free AI chat for habit and nutrition questions.

NutriScan takes a different approach from every app above. Instead of structured lessons, it reduces friction in food logging through AI photo scanning - particularly for complex meals, restaurant plates, curries and mixed bowls where manual database lookup is unreliable. It holds a 4.6/5 rating from 439 ratings on the US App Store, checked 7 August 2026 (App Store listing).

The free tier includes 5 AI-powered photo scans a week plus NutriBites, a conversational AI that answers questions about your meals, habits, and goals directly from your own meal timeline (Home > Bottom Nav > NutriBites). For users who used Noom's chat mainly for accountability check-ins and food questions, NutriBites covers that function without a subscription - see how meal scanning works for the full flow.

NutriScan NutriBites chat screen showing AI answers with meal cards from the user's own timelineNutriBites (Home > Bottom Nav > NutriBites): ask questions about your meals by text or voice and get answers with tappable meal cards - free for all users

The scan flow also lets you set the oil level on the meal itself (No Oil, Low Oil, Default / Medium Oil, High Oil), which is where AI logging usually loses accuracy on curries, stir-fries and restaurant plates. You can set the cooking method from 11 options on the same screen. NutriScan Premium at $59.99/year adds unlimited scans and a 28-day personalized diet plan, and the Invite & Earn program gives both sides a week of Premium when a friend signs up through your link.

Where NutriScan wins over Noom: Photo logging accuracy for complex and home-cooked meals, a free tier with real AI scanning and chat, no daily lesson commitment, and a $59.99/year Premium vs $209/year. Where Noom wins: The full CBT psychology curriculum and structured behavior-change program remain Noom's core strength.

How to Switch From Noom in 5 Steps ๐Ÿ”„ โ€‹

Step 1: Cancel Noom before your renewal date. Noom subscriptions renew automatically. Noom's terms require you to cancel before 11:59 p.m. Eastern on the day before your next billing date (Noom terms), so mark that date. You can cancel in the Noom app, through the Subscription Portal at account.noom.com, or in the store you subscribed through - Apple (Settings โžก๏ธ Subscriptions) or Google Play (Payments and subscriptions).

Step 2: Note what you learned from Noom. Noom does have a data export, but it is request-based: you submit the request in the app or on the web and "typically receive your data in a portable format within 30 days" (Noom privacy FAQ). Noom does not itemise what the file contains. So request it if you want the records, and separately write down your typical calorie target, the habit patterns you identified, and the one or two lesson insights that actually changed your behavior. Those insights are what you carry forward - they matter more than the logged data.

Step 3: Pick your alternative based on what you actually used.

  • Lesson-based habit coaching โžก๏ธ Simple or BetterMe
  • Live human accountability โžก๏ธ WW or Nourish
  • Just a food log โžก๏ธ MyFitnessPal or NutriScan
  • Woman over 40 โžก๏ธ Reverse Health

Step 4: Run your new app for one full week before Noom expires. A 2024 scoping review by Kidman et al. in JMIR, pooling 18 studies and 525,824 participants, found that about 70% of people stop using a health app within its first 100 days (Kidman et al., PMC11694054). Overlap the two apps while Noom access is still active, so the replacement gets a real run rather than a cold start after you have already stopped paying attention.

Step 5: Complete one full log on day one of the new app. Build your favorites list, set your calorie or macro targets with a tool like our free macro calculator, and log at least one full day before calling the switch done. A half-configured app is the one you quietly stop opening.

How to Pick the Right Alternative ๐ŸŽฏ โ€‹

Woman at a bright kitchen table comparing health coaching apps on her smartphone with a handwritten pros and cons list

1. Decide what you actually used in Noom. Work out which part you opened every day, the log or the lessons, and buy for that one. If you mainly used the calorie log and ignored lessons, a tracker with a better free tier beats another coaching app.

2. Test before you pay. Simple has a limited free tier. BetterMe is free to download, with a trial only when its price screen offers one. NutriScan's free plan includes 5 photo scans a week and NutriBites chat at no cost. Run any app for a full week before subscribing.

3. Be honest about the accountability you respond to. AI coaching like Avo is always available and consistent. Human coaching like WW's live workshops requires scheduling but gives you a real person's judgment. Pick the friction you'll actually tolerate.

4. Check your health insurance before buying any app. Nourish says 94% of its patients pay $0 out of pocket, and WW tells prospective members their employer may cover it (WW). A 5-minute insurer check could save you the entire $209.

5. Logging frequency beats program sophistication. The Loughnane review is the relevant evidence here: across 35 studies, human and AI coaching both showed a positive impact on engagement and lifestyle outcomes, and the pooled dropout rate it cites for digital health interventions is 43% (PMC12058678). The app you open every day always beats the one with the best curriculum you stop using.

Horizontal bar chart showing yearly savings versus Noom: Nourish saves $209 with insurance, Simple and NutriScan $149, MyFitnessPal $129, WW $65, BetterMe $29, while Reverse Health costs $31 moreFigure 2: What each switch saves (or costs) per year against Noom's $209 annual plan. The BetterMe and Reverse Health bars annualise a monthly rate, because neither publishes a yearly price, so both understate the saving.

The research behind all of this is consistent. The Loughnane review found all three coaching modalities, human, AI and hybrid, feasible and acceptable, with human and AI coaching showing a positive impact on engagement and lifestyle outcomes and hybrid approaches still needing refinement. The coaching interaction is what carried the result, whichever brand delivered it. And the Kidman review names the real reasons adults abandon lifestyle apps: technical issues, privacy concerns, poor user experience, and evolving needs and goals, catalogued as 22 reasons across six categories with poor user experience the most consistent of them.

The free 2-minute daily loop that replaces Noom's lessons โœจ

You've been patient - here it is. Noom's lessons train one core skill: noticing your own eating patterns before they run on autopilot. That skill is a loop you can run yourself, free, in about 2 minutes a day. Log your meal, using a photo scan for the ones a text search gets wrong โžก๏ธ ask one reflection question in an AI chat like NutriBites ("What pattern do you see in my last 3 days?" or "Was today's dinner heavier than my usual?") โžก๏ธ write down the one pattern you noticed. That's CBT-style self-monitoring plus feedback, and feedback from an AI coach is one of the two modalities the 35-study review linked to better engagement and lifestyle outcomes. NutriScan's free tier runs the loop: 5 photo scans a week for the meals worth scanning, plus NutriBites questions across your whole timeline, no subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions โ“ โ€‹

Is there a free version of Noom? No. Noom Weight has no free tier. All plans are paid, starting at $17.42 per month on the 12-month annual plan or $70 per month on a 1-month plan. Noom publishes a 7-day trial and does not state a price for it, and coaching is only available with a paid subscription.

What is the cheapest Noom alternative with habit coaching? Simple is the closest habit-coaching swap, but it publishes no list price at any duration and says the exact price appears at checkout. Fortune's tester recorded $30 a month, and the live US App Store lists ten concurrent SKUs from $14.99 to $59.99, including a $59.99 Simple Premium tier. Noom's annual plan works out to $17.42 a month. Avo is available any time, unlike human-staffed coaching that requires scheduling.

Does BetterMe have CBT lessons like Noom? BetterMe publishes mindset and mental-health content, but its focus is workout programming plus nutrition tools and habit tracking. It does not publish a CBT lesson curriculum the way Noom does. For daily behavior-change lessons in the Noom style, Simple is the closer low-cost match.

Can I use a Noom alternative if I am taking GLP-1 medication? Yes. Noom ships a GLP-1 Companion add-on, WW lists a GLP-1 Success Program on its CORE+ and MED+ plans, and Nourish dietitians name GLP-1s as a specialty. Nourish is the strongest option if you need RD guidance on GLP-1 management, because a licensed dietitian can adjust your protein and calorie targets as your appetite changes.

How do I cancel Noom and avoid being charged again? Cancel before 11:59 p.m. Eastern on the day before your next billing date, through the same platform you subscribed on - Apple (Settings โžก๏ธ Subscriptions), Google Play (Payments and subscriptions), the Noom app, or the Subscription Portal at account.noom.com. Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription. After canceling, access continues until the current period ends. Set a calendar reminder for the renewal date to be safe.

Which Alternative Should You Choose โœ… โ€‹

Noom's approach to habit coaching is evidence-based and well-designed. The color-coded food system, CBT curriculum, and community features work well for users who engage consistently - Fortune's 2026 reviewers rated it the best overall weight loss app for a reason.

But at $209 per year, with variable coaching quality and a daily lesson commitment, it's not the right fit for everyone. The seven alternatives cover what people actually need after leaving: AI coaching at lower cost (Simple), workouts plus nutrition (BetterMe), menopause-aware structure (Reverse Health), live community accountability (WW), real dietitian access often covered by insurance (Nourish), simple calorie tracking (MyFitnessPal), and free photo logging with AI chat (NutriScan).
